"The woman named “Democrat of The Year” this year by the Jefferson County Democratic Party has been convicted of felony theft by a Jefferson County jury for stealing from a developmentally disabled 71-year-old woman. The victim is partially blind, developmentally disabled, has cerebral palsy and is confined to a wheelchair. She is on a fixed income of $596 per month according to the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office."

She was just redistributing the wealth.;)

That's a switch, usually it's Republicans trying to take peoples income assistance.

The more I think about it the more I realize the OP is right up there with "don't socialize my medicare".

The assistance check that was stolen from this women IS redistributed income. According to Republicans she was never supposed to get it in the first place, but the OP seems to feel that sympathy for her loosing it should support their stance against income redistribution.

More likely, the OP is upset that someone received that income redistribution. The GOP wants NO ONE to receive such benefits at all. Someone breaking the law to get it is a doubly evil thing.

Maybe the OP thinks of it as preventative? If no one received redistributed income assistance this elderly lady would have had nothing to steal and therefor the crime rate would be lower?

So, are you just highlighting a case of irony, or is this an attack on the Democratic Party?

I can't speak for the OP, but as a fiscal conservative who will vote the GOP ticket this year, I can tell you that is untrue. I simply want assistance money to go to people who really need it, like the victim, and stop going to people who merely want it, like half of my inlaws who rely on their "checks" to avoid work or supplement their under-the-table work. THAT'S income redistribution.

Why the heck would you vote for the GOP ticket if you're believe in fiscal conservativism?!

Actually, it's all income redistribution. If you can figure out a way to fix the system without throwing the baby out with the bath water, you might have a Pulitzer in your future.

In the mean time, I would think true fiscal conservatives would be more interested in addressing waste in areas which might actually make a significant difference - like say defense spending.

So it's only "income redistribution" when you approve of it?

This is the same argumentation technique I've been noting often lately--trying to cast a matter of opinion as some sort of objective fact or objective category.

If the only thing you mean is that you disagree with some particulars of welfare programs, then you shouldn't go around saying you are against "income redistribution". As a matter of fact, it's all "income redistribution"--even in the case of the victim in this story.

This rhetorical technique casts what is a matter of opinion (and in this case areas that might be open to discussion and negotiation) as a matter of objective fact over which there can be no discussion.

Okay, Johnny & Joe: You got me. Government spending is all income redistribution. There is a tremendous amount of waste in government spending in just about every department. Government can stand to be much smaller and we should stop paying for stuff that we want, so that we can actually pay for (and not borrow for) things that we need.

Because this time...
:D Hope springs eternal. Just you wait. Some day there will be a true fiscal conservative who will become president and America will become the greatest nations on Earth and Jesus will come back riding on a T-Rex.

That cannot happen if you don't vote for the GOP.

...like half of my inlaws who rely on their "checks" to avoid work or supplement their under-the-table work.
I know what you mean, half of my in-laws are Republicans and they drown puppies.

Hey Jean, would you do me a favor? Tell me which of the 20 nations highest in HDI (or any other index) meets your criteria for small government?
