• Quick note - the problem with Youtube videos not embedding on the forum appears to have been fixed, thanks to ZiprHead. If you do still see problems let me know.

Cute enough to share?

MAybe not... I got an e-mail from our tech support staff asking for help with support for a fellow who's trying to interface to an API I wrote with Java.

Here's part of his e-mail as it came to me:

> It takes almost 2 days to ask me for more?
> They could have asked 1 day before!
>
> here's the exception to get my redemption...
>
> see the full trace below I wrote,
> I'll wait for your response, drinking on my boat.
>
> Don't take too long, I'm almost out of beer,
> As the weekend approaches and is getting near.

So naturally I saw this as a challenge and did him one better:

The poetry he wrote is cute;
but our stance must be absolute.
The exception he gets
at the end of his wits
I can't proceed to t-shoot.

In his code he left it for us to see,
written under guise of comment three
InputStream returns naught
an exception to be caught
So the problem lies with him, not me.

Although it's out of our range to fix
Lest our tech support he should nix
In browsing his code,
two errors I've showed
After changing them we'll see what sticks.

// in this case, URI is: http://xxxxxxxxxxx.com:1401
That comment may show where he's come undone
Don't forget don't you know
/gw/sas/direct3.0
And your socket will be the right one.

queryString = "?" + toURLEncodedString(parameters);
The above method is for cheaters
our docs will show
the right way, you know
...is to POST in the body the parameters.

I say when the URL contains the query
I've repeated so often I'm weary
It's a GET and no less
And it might work, I guess
But without a POST your prospects are dreary.

I hope this response hasn't made you sore
I know reading poetry can be a real chore
Now I am through
Those problems for you
But you can write back and we'll help some more.

Ahhh... fun at work.

Best laugh I've had all day

I love working tech support.

Shucks, thanks. Sadly, I sent it to our tech support department and they decided it was too unprofessional to give to the customer. I'm told it's up on a cube wall of fame there now (I never go into the office). Too bad the customer didn't get to see it. I guess they responded to him with a synopsis. Not in verse. Heheh. I was very proud of myself for working in an actual comment and line of code from his original e-mail.

And the prize for Friday's biggest geek goes to . . . SCRIBBLE!

Please note, however, that I say that in the jealous tones of one who can neither read code nor write poetry . . .

:D
