Due to deficits in the Texas state budget, Texas will be cutting funding for education. Public schools will be getting less money. In order to stay within the available budget for next year, what does my Clear Creek Independent School District (CCISD) elementary school cut?

A: Art Teacher
B: Music Teacher
C: One of the multiple Coaches for PE
D: Science Teacher

If you guessed "D: Science Teacher", you are correct. According to the school prinicpal, CCISD ordered her to cut a dedicated Science teacher instead of a dedicated Art, Music, or one of the PE teachers.

Gotta love Texas.

Well, the thread title kind of gave it away? Were you administering the science tests? Maybe they cut science because the kids were doing so well on the tests. *kidding*

It is Texas after all - do they do science down there?

If anything cut the extra coach. But then the obssesion of Texans with High School Football is well known.

It's a rhetorical question!

Johnson Space Center, Texas Instruments, National Instruments, USDA, etc..
Outsourcing. "Science" is still a part of spelling-bee finals in Texas, right? Technically, its still in he school system.

That has what to do with a P.E. Teacher?

He was described as being a Coach, and I presume that is Football.
You really have to understand that some Texas high schools have a Football coaching staff of 3 or 4 people who do not teach regular PE.

I bow to your advanced mental gymnastics.

rjwould is on a crusade against Education as it is in the US. Sadly, though, what he offers as an alternative is the old "Progressive Education" BS, and we know how well that worked.........
There is lots that is wrong with public education in the US, but 60's style touchy feelly "let the kid do what he wants " crap is not the answer.

I don't know about your school in particular, but in many many schools, there is only one art or music teacher, sometimes even serving several schools. Cutting one of them is cutting the entire program. Cutting a science teacher is cutting the program back.

Yeah, my kid's elementary doesn't have a dedicated science teacher. Science is taught by the grade level teachers along with math, reading, social studies, and gun safety.

And even here in Texas, the football coaching doesn't start until middle school. Although at least one district in north Texas is noted for not having a football program. Found that it saves money. Imagine that.

The school has one dedicated Art, Music, and Science teacher and Three PE coaches.

They had to cut the budget so they cut the Science teacher. The students' general elementrary classroom teachers will be picking up those lessons. In my opinion, it would be better to cut the Art, Music, or PE teacher.
