Crime-solving question

What I mean, for example, is where the dead man wrote GIFT in his own blood. One of the suspects was named "Sy. M. Hide" and GIFT is German for "poison"

Of course Sy probably would have been known as "Poison" anyway, but no one questions the other suspects.

This sort of thing seems to be more in the realm of fictional murder mysteries than real-life murders. And even there, I'd argue that forensics is a better word for it than trivia. It's trivial until it becomes an important clue, and then it's evidence.
