Two or three people on Craig Ferguson's imdb page are fuming over some jokes he reportedly made about The Secret.

Anyone have a video of it?

Not of that, but in a weird moment of sychronicity (sp) I remembered that Ferguson played "Confidence", An apperition of Lister's that appeared when he got the "space flu", his character was listers positive side that said he was great and could do anything if he believed he could.

(He ended up dying when he thought he was so great he could breath in space).

Craig has bashed the Secret more than once. The best was when Henry Winkler made an appearance as an expert on it.

Roseanne also took a few shots at it on Bill Maher last Friday when Deepak Chopra was on. She very rightly pointed out its implication of blaming the victim for not having visualized hard enough.

It was pretty cool.

Aside from Bill Maher holding back on Deepak...

yeah, i'm a huge bill maher fan so i obviously caught that. i think roseanne was totally off the mark though. the secret is many things but it's totally non-political so when she started going off on right-wing justifications for katrina and 9/11 i was just like "hold up, lady, who said anything about katrina?! ".

sorry for this post, my caps lock is broken.

Turns out it is a marketing scam for a pyramid scheme.

theofficialsecretseminar.com

(It doesn't let me post links yet.)
For you then:

http://theofficialsecretseminar.com/

It even shows the pyramid diagram:eye-poppi . I just skimmed it.

Here's the WhoIs info on it from GoDaddy: http://who.godaddy.com/WhoIs.aspx?domain=theofficialsecretseminar.com&prog_id=godaddy

Anyone know if that's consistant with The Secret folks? I have to get dinner so I'd have to look at it later.

The "Secret" is that if you think positive then your thoughts warp reality so that positive things happen to you. It's nothing more than a 5,000 year old crock philosophy all wrapped up in new age mumbo jumbo and sold to unsuspecting dolts.

LostAngelas...That's classic. The fact they even have the pyramid diagram on their website.

That made me giggle again.

But on a more serious note, I saw a woman with a booklet from The Learning Annex who's entire cover was devoted to The Secret...

If it is a pyramid scheme, then we really need to take this crap down and fast...

James Randi needs to report more on it in his commentary.

Three of the "Secrets" teachers (sic) are behind it:
“The Secret” is a 2 hour documentary with a self-help angle. And it’s been taking the world by storm. It’s about using your mind to attract wealth - something we think most readers of this blog (or any entrepreneur for that matter) will really relate to.

MindValley teamed up with three of the teachers featured in the hit documentary to help a new seminar titled “The Science of Getting Rich”. We’re handling the technology, internet marketing and affiliate platform.

We just filmed a short 3 minute video to introduce the affiliate platform
From Mindvalley Labs Blog
It's an MLM pyramid scheme. These schemes aren't nessessarily illegal, but they do have to actually shift some tangible product/services. There's some info in comment no.4 on this blog post.

Saturday Night Live also had a parody of an Oprah episode devoted to The Secret.

She wouldn't let a housewife admit that her husband had divorced her because it was "negative." She browbeat her until the woman said, "We ARE back together."

It was pretty funny, you know, for an SNL skit from this season.

The Globe and Mail just ran an OpEd piece on The Secret today. It's over here:

What I find interesting is the way the writer defends and communicates the ideas in The Secret. In the entire half page newsprint article, she summarized the Secret as, "Think good things." In discussing the rebuttal against The Secret? "But can it work for lower class people?"

Is it just me, or has journalism gone completely downhill?

Haven't seen this vid but I am curious.
I recall watching Craig's interview with Julia Sweeney (sp?) about her atheism, and he seemed like a really smart, understanding guy. I'm not really surprised about his bashing of the secret...in fact I'm glad he bashed it, I like it when celebrities are reasonable :D

hehehehehehehehe.... now I know the secret! Bob Proctor himself told me that working for a living was for fools! I always suspected this was true, but I couldn't prove it to my family's satisfaction before today.
