CPAC 2021

That's CPAC's problem. They were on the stage that looked like a Nazi symbol. The blow just has to land; it doesn't have to fair, just or even honest. If it hurts the attendees and organizers, if it supports an association of Nazis with CPAC it's okay. January 6th justifies anything you do to damage Trump and Trump supporters, regardless of how immoral, unethical or dishonest.

I for one encourage this new form of honestly admitting your dishonesty instead of the usual dishonestly denying it.

Demonstrating our willingness to tolerate from our own the same type of behavior we vilify our political opponents over.

If I was here to police other posters I would not have time to do anything else. But as to your point I haven’t seen anyone get negative pushback for saying ‘what the hell dude’ to Craig when he gets Like That. So I don’t think anyone’s circling the hivemind wagons.

Do you consider putting forum posters on ignore instead of arguing with them, to be a negative or dangerous degree of tolerance?

Not certain ignore and tolerance are terms that relate to each other in that way.

Is green a friendly color?

Give it a rest. I will never agree that lying is acceptable campaign politics--that we have to trick people into voting for a person they would not, if they had accurate information.

Nothing good is in that direction. It is effectively saying that the voters can't be trusted to make the right decision, which is effectively saying that they should not have a vote in the first place.

I agree. And good marketing science will work without lying. The Democrats are very bad at marketing.

I would like to focus on why I think your statement is functionally wrong rather than why I think it is morally wrong.

The GOP has been engaging in larger and larger mass lies. Over half of all the GOP believes that the election was stolen and Antifa was mostly responsible for the capital riots. Now most of them are not stupid enough to actually believe something that is so easily disproven, but they are too proud to admit that they have been conned. Like the stories of the boy who creates a lie, and had to create an even bigger and bigger lie to cover up the previous ones, the GOP has allowed themselves to be placed on a house of cards by an influential con man.

The GOP is at their weakest point in decades, and if the Democrats want to take advantage of that, they need to expose the false realities for what they really are. If the Democrats were to abandon the moral high ground, they would be less able to press the Republican party on their biggest weakness.

Did anyone have any thoughts on the speeches? Don Jr. was the most insane.

Ted Cruz mocking the portrayal of right wing extremists as radicals while on a stage that exactly replicated a nazi symbol was just a little bit ironic.

I did not watch everything, but there was a lot of anti lockdown rhetoric, but little in the terms of new policies.

I was pretty surprised that Donald Trump sent cease and desist letters to the GOP to stop using his name to fundraise and support GOP candidates. I knew he only cared about himself, but I thought he would have been a little more discreet about only use his name to enrich himself.

Yeah, that's the Electoral College's job...

The Republicans are excellent at marketing because they are excellent at three things: lying, sticking together, and repeating the lies together.

That's not the only method of good marketing.

What in his history gave you the idea that he had that capability?

How many people believe Donald Trump told Americans to drink bleach? I'd hazard a guess and say millions. He said nothing of the sort. I watched the news conference live and he never said people should drink bleach. He actually said something far dumber but because he's an incompetent orator, it wasn't very clear. I have no problem at all distilling his inane ramblings down to, "Drink bleach" even if he didn't say it. That press conference and the fallout from it almost certainly cost him votes. There was no blow back on Democrats.

If what he actually said was far dumber, wouldn't that have been the better thing to run with, and be more accurate in the bargain?

And I don't see how you can say there was no blowback, it became a piece in the whole "fake news" drumbeat, adding fuel to it.

CPAC speaker Rep. Paul Gosar becoming inreasingly open in his support for white nationalism. Apparently speaking at AFPAC (America First PAC), a white nationalist conference hosted by far-right figure Nick Fuentes, is not a a disqualifying decision for more mainstream conservatives.

Since then, Gosar has been publicly endorsing the "America First" slogan.

After speaking at a white nationalist “America First” conference recently, the Arizona congressman appears to be doubling down on his support of the group

He's becoming a whole lot creepier just in general. Wow, just wow. Kind of a weird meme even for the "standards" of his kind.
