For the second time in a week, conservative commentator Ann Coulter said this country needs N.J. Gov. Chris Christie to run for president, reports The Hill.

“I don’t care if [Chris Christie] wants to run, his country needs him, it appears,” Coulter said in a Monday interview with Fox News. “There are a few things he’s a little bit soft on… We have to run somebody and if we don’t run Chris Christie, it’s going to be Romney because Republican primary voters for some reason refuse to do any research before voting. They vote for the name of anyone they’ve ever heard before.”

...During her speech at Saturday’s Conservative Political Action Conference, Coulter said... “If we don’t run Chris Christie, Romney will be the nominee and we’ll lose.”

These comments show a change in Coulter’s opinion of Romney, who she dubbed “our strongest candidate” in 2008.

I think you're assuming a lot of things about your audience. Are you intentionally leaving out those on the boards that might be inclined to support the Republican ticket to begin with?

That said, Christie is a lot better candidate than many who might otherwise run. Personally, I differ with him on enough issues that I'd still be unlikely to vote for him unless Obama does something insane.

I don't know a lot about him so I would need to learn more. I've only seen parts of his recent speeches.

I have to say that the fact that Ann Coulter supports him automatically deducts a few points off his score in my book.

Christie is one of the few republicans that seems to be able to speak articulately and convincingly enough to make me actually want to listen. He can answer tough questions without looking evasive or like an idiot.

I have no idea if he would win. The obvious thing about him is he's fat, but would voters be so superficial as to hold that against him? You would think not, but history shows that something as trivial as height is a pretty good predictor of which candidate will win. OTOH, being fat didn't stop Taft from becoming president.

Don't forget Tim Pawlenty. I'm a total lib so, I obviously have my biases, but he's liked by a lot by people on both sides of the aisle. Also, he's pretty affable and articulate.

At one time, I would agree.
But Palwnty has moved sharply to the Right, is kowtowing to Fundamentalist Christian Leaders, and has been saying some kooky things like how letting US Govenrment default on it's debts in April is a peachy keen idea.
I am afraid he is selling out to the Tea Party Faction,and it won't work, because it will turn off the moderates, and not convince the Tea partiers to abandon their favorites.
The problem with CHristie is it might be a little too late ; the other candidates have a long start on him.
But...yeah, it will be Romney because Romney will portray himself as the GOP candidate who has the best chance to defeat Obama.
THe biggest problem ANY GOP candidate will have is the way the Militant faction of the GOP is going scare people about putting the GOP totally in charge.

This week Pawlenty kicked off a series of presidential forums in Iowa with The Family Leader, a controversial conservative group that calls homosexuality a “public health crisis” and teaches “gay sex kills.” He also appeared on the radio show of Focus on the Family to talk about the Christian founding of America.

He should just march along with Fred Phelps.

That said, I'm in agreement with AdMan. That Coulter likes him is a clear sign he shouldn't run. Coulter isn't merely a spiteful, hateful, ignorant, partisan coward, she's been wrong so often on so much, you have to wonder why she has an audience at all.
