It has the Donald Trump seal of approval so you know it's high quality

If it only had that I would not want to get the vaccine. However, real Americans, professionals in the field of infectious disease have said that it is safe and effective and in a transparent manner. So, in spite of Trump's best efforts to pull defeat from the jaws of victory, I believe the science and will get the vaccine.

The fact that Trump supporters skew older and are among the least likely to get the vaccine may give the Democrats an edge in tight races in 2022 and 2024.

Antiparasitic drug Ivermectin kills coronavirus in a lab setting in just 48 hours.

At last check, there have been a bunch of treatment candidates that worked well in a lab setting against COVID, but not so much in later, more meaningful trials. Working well at the lab level is just the first hurdle. Like all the rest, of course, it's not wrong to hope that it'll actually work and work well in the end as a treatment.

In the lab: Theralizumab, a drug intended to treat B cell chronic lymphocytic leukemia, worked extremely well. It killed cancer cells effectively.

In Animals: It showed no side effects when administered at a dosage rate up to 50mg per kg

In Humans: When human clinical trials were attempted, it caused catastrophic systemic organ failures, despite being administered at a dose of 0.1 mg per kg, some 500 times lower than the dose found safe in animals.

Result: Six volunteers were hospitalized on 13 March 2006, at least four of these suffering from multiple organ dysfunction.

Lesson: Just because something works in a lab does not mean it will work when you administer it to humans.

Was it shown to be efficacious in humans in a gold standard, blinded, placebo-controlled study?

So, no.

Not at present, at least. We can certainly hope that it will. Albeit guardedly.

Exactly. And when it does, that's when it's time to accept its efficacy. Not before.

So like trained seals
No. Like rational adults who understand the scientific method and recognize objective reality.

As for trained seals, or sheep, or lemmings, there's always WWG1WGA.

Right... an economist pontificating on virology and medical science
Not just any economist but one from the libertarian nutcase AIER, the people who deny the disadvantages of climate change, support sweatshops and made up the "Great Barrington Declaration". They're also oppsed to masks and social distancing...

If 95% of the population gets the disease, recovers and thereby acquires immunity, you would have herd immunity once it has spread wide enought

When the disease in question is fatal for less than 1% of the people who catch it and most people don't know they have it unless they are tested, herd immunity could be acquired without anybody being vaccinated.
Of course your "plan" would see about one and a half percent of the population (say 5 million USAians) die and tens of millions more suffer the long term effects, but hey, that's a tiny price to pay for a failed economic ideology....
