Corbyn did win, what's next?

Cameron's bubble is bursting, which is hardly a surprise given his nature and that of other senior cabinet colleagues.......

Come on Glenn.

.......soon after the entire govt. started being embarrassed by the Google deal......

That was nothing whatever to do with the government. It was entirely the HMRC, which is independent of government. Did you watch the BBC 10 O'Clock news? It was well explained.

HMRC is a government department which is supposed to be free of direct government influence. If you seriously, for one second, believe that's how it actually works then I'd recommend watching Yes Minister, which explains the reality very well.

Or were you being ironic? Hard to tell in the written word sometimes :)

Would you welcome Government ministers getting involved in negotiations with specific taxpayers?

It's not completely independent, it is under control of the Govt and the Treasury. It doesn't however have a Minister in charge appointed by the Govt.
That is to stop any political interference against opponents. or the perception that there is interference.
For example six weeks before an election the treasury announces it is investigating the tax Affairs of the leader of the Opposition etc would look bad.

There is legislation legislation legislation with regard to tax law rather than education education education as Tony Blair used to say.The problem is finding out what the law actually is, for which you often need professional help. The law on common assault seems to have changed over the years without ever being reported in the media that I know about.

It's always annoyed me that these Russian shady oligarchs living in the London area don't seem to have to pay any more than £30000 in income tax after their corrupt privatisations in Russia, under some kind of law, or rule. It's pocket money for them. Multi-national corporations threaten to move to Ireland if they have to pay any fair tax. There seems to be some kind of rule that a millionaire can only spend a a short period of time in this country if he is to avoid paying UK tax. I don't think writers have to pay UK tax on their overseas earnings.

I have often thought there is the possibility of bribery and corruption when the tax people negotiate with certain individuals and corporations over their tax affairs. Meanwhile hospitals now seem to be unable to send the elderly to care homes because of all the spending cuts over the past few years, and the hospitals A& E can only cope with life threatening problems. Corbyn is in a weak position because he can always be accused of being loony left, which is a bit unfair, but probably true.

It's interesting to look at the record of the outgoing HMRC chief, Dame Lin Homer.

She has a catastrophic record in several posts in local government and national government agencies and was dubbed "Dame Disaster". This Daily Mail article sums it up nicely and, unusually for the Mail, is easily verifiable as a fair account.

HMRC chief dubbed Dame Disaster living it up on flight to US days after being forced to apologise for tax office's failures

She obviously had something to offer. I wonder what it was? It'll also be interesting to see where she goes when she leaves HMRC in a few months.

Seems to me like the UK public hates Cameron, but sure as hell does not Corbyn as his replacement.

Seems to me like the UK public hates Cameron........

The same percentage, I'd guess, who would never vote Tory. Most of the people I know think he's leading a relatively moderate and centrist government quietly going about the business of fulfilling its manifesto commitments. I don't see any haters unless I go on-line.

Shame on you for using that word.

Somewhere south of Watford?

That map is misleading if you are talking about geographical areas

The Labour Party is never going to win an election unless it can win seats like Nuneaton and do better in Scotland. I suppose it might be able to form a coalition government in the future. Personally, I think Cameron is a hereditary millionaire plonker. The public and the House of Commons only understand straight lines, as Neville Chamberlain used to say. Blair was supported by the media tycoons in the Murdoch media. I don't think James Murdoch is a bundle of laughs. What is needed is a political genius.

I know, but you know what I would have been accused of it I had presented that map instead of the equal-area-constituencies map. Linking to the one I did had the advantage of showing the least favourable version of the Tory results, whilst still making my point quite forcefully.
