Continued: (Ed) Atheism Plus/Free Thought Blogs (FTB)

I think pretty much anybody who uses a phrase like "that's 101 stuff" can safely be ignored on almost every topic.

I think this heuristic sorta works until you get to the harder sciences. Most of the time I've seen "this is Chemistry 101" it's been on fairly solid ground.

Holy moly.

I can't post a URL yet but:

"Neptune Fallen ‏@NeptunFallen Apr 8
@MelodyHensley
My friend just showed me a video with this tweet. How is it as painful as my PTSD from rape, sexual abuse, and molestation?jw"

You are very insensitive to question someone that has a life altering disorder. This is harassment. You will be blocked."

Wow

I read some of her Twitter feed last night. I'll give her that she was diagnosed with something but I'm not buying it's PTSD from reading the internet.

She appeared to be arguing with a trans* about who belongs in the trans* community ( and ignoring all that stuff I learned about genderqueer last year, right here on this very thread ) and calling some guy an MRA harasser.

I'm thinking about a certain type of mechanical clock right now, one typically associated with Germany or Switzerland.

My PTSD is worse than yours!!! Nyah-nyah-nyah!!!

CFI mission statement includes the statement “No topic should be placed off limits to scrutiny…”

Am I reading those tweets correctly?
Melody Hensley appears to have pointed out that victims of sexual abuse, rape and molestation suffer from PTSD as badly or perhaps even worse than people involved in war zones, then accused someone who suffered such abuse of harassment for calling her on her claims of social media PTSD.

I never understand that level of cyber-bullying.
If your online interactions with Twiiter and the like are causing you genuine distress or pain, then why wouldn't you just stop using them?
If you've attempted to block the trolls and it hasn't worked, then continuing just isn't worth the hassle, surely?

If tweeting is part of your job, you have to continue for so long as your employer keeps sending you back into the trenches. For whatever reason, CFI continues to do this in her case.

I'm talking about people who use such terms on the internet in reference to their own opinions. I mostly see it used by SJWs as a means of shutting down conversation on any particular topic. Someone disagrees with you? Don't make a reasoned argument, don't back up what you're saying with any empirical data, simply accuse them of "failing Feminism 101" (or whatever 101 is applicable) and tell them they need to "educate" themselves, and job's a good 'un.

It's even worse - I think she's trying to say that her PTSD from using twitter is as bad, or even worse, than that suffered by combat vets or rape victims (but probably not quite as bad as elevator harassment victims).

I have PTSD from somebody playing the Doom Blade card on me twice in a game of Magic: The Gathering. DON'T BE INSENSITIVE!

Can you elucidate? Is it her job to Tweet? Didn't CFI disavow any connection between the organization and a member's personal social media communications... specifically because of this brouhaha? That sounds more like "look, you do what you want, but don't drag us into it".

It is possible that less traumatised people are running @CFI_DC and @wis3cfi nowadays. The Twitter accounts, that is, not the organisations.

I guess it wouldn't bother me so much, but her twitter feed does entwine CFI and her very loose grasp on sanity. (I very much hope she gets the help she needs.)

Her Twitter feed kinda looks like this...

  • Tweet about how trans people are harassing her for not liking drag queens or whatever.
  • Tweet about how veterans who claim their war-caused PTSD is worse are pieces of excrement
  • Invitation to donate for WISC3
  • Tweet about men in the skeptic community are all abuser/harassers.
  • Confirmation of reporting a serviceman who claims that seeing his war buddy get his leg blown off by an IED is worse than being on Twitter

She should make a completely different Twitter account that doesn't immediately trace back to her. She is making CFI look very bad.

I agree fully that she's harming CFI, and since I'm not an A+/FTB fan, I think she's harming WIS, too.

Was CFI just being too subtle when they disavowed any connection to her "personal" tweets? Are they bending over backwards because of her decent service in the past? Why wouldn't they just call her in and say, "Look, that's not our message and you're supposed to be the face of CFI in this region, so it may be time to rethink our relationship if your personal beliefs and behavior run counter to our purposes."

I'm not comparing my position and hers, but as an analogy.... I spent 47 years in logistics. My company represented some of the major Fortune 500 companies and I handled their accounts personally in Asia. I was always very careful on these boards to be anonymous and have no one know that my comments on, say, "outsourcing" could be associated with my company or our clients. I'm now retired, so I say what I damned well please, under my own name, on Linked In, but only after making sure that I let sufficient time elapse after my departure from my company. If my opinions on (again, let's say) outsourcing ran counter to those of my management and its mission and/or those of our top clients, then I had to either keep those opinions to myself (or anonymous) or rethink whether I should be working for that company and in that industry.

She was bedridden for 16 months due to this PTSD ?

Cab we embed tweets here ? I've been trying to figure it out for half an hour and...I give up.
