Continued: (Ed) Atheism Plus/Free Thought Blogs (FTB)

Nope. It was a really painful video and left me disgusted, but I managed to watch all of it. The whole video was about a (sober, well-mannered, thoughtful, handsome and fit) guy wanting extra protection against potential pregnancy before having sex with (presumably intoxicated) Watson. I'll leave it your imagination why that might be so. But I was left confused why Watson would want to make this embarrassing (to her) incident public. She was the total jerk in that situation, and he was the responsible one, even if maybe ruining the heat of the moment.

If there's one thing I've learned about Rebecca Watson, it's that she does love her some heat of the moment.

I don't think I've ever seen her speak in public where she wasn't dramatizing something.

It probably causes her some amount of frustration, if not outright existential angst, when someone busts her groove, or interrupts her internal narrative of what is going on.

Mr. One Night Stand disrupts her dramatic one night stand story? Unacceptable. And unresolved! Probably the best (only?) way she knows to resolve the story is to tell a new story, present a new drama, that gives her a sense of closure on the old one.

My theory is that she's not so much a skeptic, as she is a drama whore who likes to tell herself and others stories in the "skeptical" genre.

I'm still wondering what she thinks the moral of her story was. That girls sometimes just wanna have fun? That Mormons are crazy? That guys shouldn't think twice when the girl is horny? Damned if I know. In any case, telling him to get the F out - if true - was quite shocking. Reverse the situation and you have a caricature of a misogynist horny pig.

I haven't followed her skeptical thingies at all, all I know about her is the drama, because that's all what hits the blogsphere news. I find her public speeches unwatchable, and although I haven't met her in person, I think I wouldn't like to be around her much. So I might not be in her target audience. Was this super sperm thing supposed to have something to do with skepticism? If I didn't know any better, I would have thought it's amateur stand-up comedy night - hence the punchline "get the F out of my apartment".

My hypothesis is that the moral, and her thoughts on the moral, are incidental: The point is the feeling of telling a story, the sense of drama.

This explains why the morals of her stories don't often express any kind of coherent, rational skepticism.

"Watson lore" lol. Another good post foolme. Any new news about ceepolk? Is she at all on the lecture circuit? Are you? You should be. Would love to see a debate between you and Rebecca. You could do it on Skype, record it, put in on YouTube and post a link here. Wow. That would be cool.

So if I don't get a reply by Monday can I assume I have your permission to set it up with Rebecca? :D It would sure be an adrenaline rush for this thread.

Somebody should probably write a requiem for the A+ site and thus this thread before both vanish into the cloud. We've had some great laughs, and interesting discussion. I nominate either fmo or gentle horse to do it, but there are so many very articulate, deep thinkers that have contributed here that somebody will do it right. It's been a great read for me, so thanks to all who made it so.

JSYK I follow many threads like this though rarely bother to comment as I pick threads where there's an aggregation of folks way brighter than I ever was so unless I have a question, why bother? I was again guilted into posting by the message that always reminds me I should do so every time I log in. :boxedin:

Ceepolk is off the map. I'd found lots of places she frequented, but after her departure from the A+ moderating team there's been nothing.

Reminds me of Adria Richards and the other A+/FTB darling Anita Sarkeesian.

Adria was in radio silence for months but she's at least back on Twitter with comments like "It had taken months to get over the panic attacks, restless sleep and overwhelming sense of being watched" and "hateful people cannot see Unicorns as their optic nerves are damaged from obsessive thoughts." (she's a religious woo who thinks God is on her side and is enthusiastically supported by A+ and FTB).

Participation trophies are not supplied here :p .

My answer is correct.

The fact that it's a stereotype for white people with dreads to be seen as drug-users is mentioned a few times, but that's not what the question was. You asked how many times white people with dreadlocks were actually referred to as such. The answer is zero. Zero times.

And, FWIW, I'm far from a fan of the forum, but they're absolutely right on that count - being a drug using hippie is a very common stereotype of white people with dreadlocks.

I don't know how anyone manages, or indeed, can be bothered to post there at all. It's an absolute linguistic minefield.

Linguistics is practiced by white people at universities in the Western world. Check your priviledge.

Sweet FSM the SJW blogosphere is under attack because of Woody Allen?

Pure speculation: couldn't possibly have anything to do with defenders of a certain skeezy director. Nope.
