Continuation Part 2 - Discussion of the Amanda Knox case

Curatolo needs help, both drug rehab and psychological help. This has been obvious from the start. Instead Mignini chose to exploit this vulnerable man and convince him to perjure himself on the stand. I hold Mignini not Curatolo responsible for this farce.

I agree. I also think there are matters to be investigated - when this whole sorry business is over - about how the police and prosecuting authorities seemingly had cast-iron evidence of serious criminal activity (heroin dealing) by Curatolo long before November 1st 2007. According to reports, there was surveillance video, and there may well have been an informant or police stooge involved as Curatolo's "customer". Questions therefore have to be asked about why the prosecutors seemingly held off from prosecuting Curatolo until late 2010, for crimes committed in 2004 for which they had solid evidence in 2004.

Could it be....could it be...... that the police/prosecutors might have had a cosy little chat with Toto in 2004, during which they told him that they had the goods on him, but that if he played their game they might "decide" not to press charges? Could it be that they therefore instructed Toto to act as an informant on the more institutionalised heroin/cocaine trafficking/dealing trade in Perugia, as well as telling them about any other criminal activity he might "come across"? This could of course be well wide of the mark, but at least I hope an inquiry will get to the truth about all this....

I wasn't discussing another forum - I was discussing your posting style. But I'm guessing this is a subject you're not keen to expand upon, so I'll leave it there.

Again, an experienced poster here should also know that... 'arguments' about an individual's posting *'style'*.... also are in conflict with our Membership agreement.

Thus I am indeed and quite understandably not 'keen' about it.

Haha fair enough.

So....... question about the case: how long a stint do you think the mellifluous, magnificent, meandering Mignini should serve for his role in this sad, self-serving, sordid case? 7 years?

Maybe Mignini can just disappear and retire to a farm. That would work out well for everyone.

new career

I think he could also be an engineer on a train...no, wait...

Do people think that Mr. Mignini and Ms. Comodi believe what they say about the DNA and Curalto?

"tisnt 'tit"? What does that mean?

It sounds like a disease. Surely one would not want to come down with "tisnt tit"!

Curatolo could easily have offered a non-committal or simply a negative answer to such a question - after all, how could the court ever prove whether or not he was using heroin in 2007? Either way, he cuts a pretty unsubstantial, shambling figure - not only as of today, when he was brought from prison to testify, but also in 2007.

Does anyone really think Curatolo even remembers if he was wasted that night? I think it is safe to assume someone with a herion problem was using at the time.

open debate

Thoughtful commented elsewhere, "JREF quotes were frowned upon in the past; this could be a good place for them, and other forms of direct FOA debunking." I call upon thoughtful and all other commenters from all boards to come here and to debunk to their hearts' content. The debate would be well served by having all possible participants. I am especially eager to discuss the DNA forensics, time permitting. For example, if the clasp cannot be retested, how should the independent experts evaluate what has already been done? Should Meredith's profile be accepted without a retest? Let's all debunk together.

I think things will get a little heated in here today. News-wise, this was not a good day for guilters.
I recall reading similar posts on Candace Dempsey’s blog during the trial, this appeal is not over nor do we have any idea how the jury view the witnesses thus far. Will Hellmann rule that the knife can be taken apart? Will the geneticist corroborate or reject procedures and mythologies used in the original DNA examination?

I am guessing you mean methodologies although the other word might actually fit. One possible clue I have seen is them stopping after a too low reading on the DNA. If true, this could mean they don't believe that just cranking up the knob is the correct methodology for LCN DNA testing.

I won’t bother correcting it.:o

Do you mean the knife or the bra clasp or both?

Greetings all!

I've taken a break from posting, but have been reading from time to time. A combination of other commitments and a wish to step back from the petty squabbling and over-invested opinionating (mostly, of course. on one particular side of the debate...) led me to step back for a while and - in the immortal words of General Melchett in Blackadder 4 - "watch the results as they come in".

Glad to have you back LJ.

The knife, (handle) if I am reading things correctly.

You know, once upon a time I wrote a long post to this one guy who used to post here before being banned, what was his name again, something from a movie everyone tells me I ought to see but never have gotten around to, about how insight can be gleaned even from dubious sources....

The Dude abides.

something I used to hear referred to as 'capillary action' tends to occur in very fine clearances between surfaces, fluids tend to seep between them readily.

For example, if you press two pieces of together firmly and immerse an edge in water, the water will quickly spread between them.

Whatever, the knife should have been dismantled as a matter of course.

Major typo there - should have read; "For example, if you press two pieces of glass together firmly and immerse an edge in water, the water will quickly spread between them."

Maresca on Toto's testimony: "He has simply repeated what he told the trial," said Francesco Maresca, a lawyer representing the Kercher family. "What is key is that he is sure he saw them the night before the police came and that it was not raining. It rained on the 31st but not on the 1st," he said.

"Curatolo was considered completely reliable at the trial and this was confirmed today. As for the masks, maybe he mixed up some general memories, but he never said Amanda and Raffaele were wearing masks," he added." http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2011/mar/26/amanda-knox-appeal-contradictory-testimony

Anyone care to comment on Maresca's reaction?

That's what Mignini and Maresca do.

They exploiited the grief, anger and confusion of the Kercher family, carefully manipulated and directed at Amanda Knox - the Kerchers probably felt has deserted MK and thus already bore some "culpability"for her death.
