Continuation: Discussion of the George Zimmerman case

And in the sideshow to the main event, Zimmerman's brother is keepin' it classy:

And then there's this tweet:

I wonder if actually believes he's helping his brother with these shenanigans?

The elephant in the room. "Blacks might be risky".

Best not take the chance, right?

Of course, we can't hold George responsible for the racism of his family, but when his father proclaims how unlikely it is that George is a bigot, let's remember that he'd probably say the same thing for his other cretinous son.

Zimmerman's brother:

POTUS spoke of his Mom acting like a “typical” white woman when encountering blacks. The fate of Sherry West might B why.

It's weird that you would alter my argument immediately after quoting and repeating it.

I didn't say Zimmerman's case hangs on Martin reaching for his gun, just his self-defense claim.

And for clarification's sake, I wasn't referring to his legal claim but rather the actual claim he made in which he says it was when Martin reached for his gun that he was placed in fear for his life and had to defend himself.

Yeah, I'm not sure what I was thinking. My bad. Sorry.

Exactly. Only if they are employed by Martin's high school do we "blindly accept" their word.

You're right. I don't accept your completely unsubstantiated assertion. Imagine that.

Especially considering that there is counter evidence to that completely unsubstantiated assertion, which I previously presented:

See, it's a relatively common practice to divert defendants to a pretrial diversion program which they must successfully complete before the charges are actually dropped.

You don't have any evidence. At all. You made it up because it fits your predetermined conclusions.

In short, you lied.

So remind my why he was charged with

1) RESISTING OFFICER WITH VIOLENCE
2)BATTERY ON LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICER

but charge 2 was dropped and charge 1 was reduced to RESISTING OFFICER WITHOUT VIOLENCE ?

Wasn't there something about a pre-trial diversion? You could probably find it by searching this thread.

Again, it's expedience.

Are you seriously not aware of the fact that charge reductions and pleas bargains are a common practice in criminal prosecutions in order to save time and resources?

Had the charges been dropped outright, you might have a point. But they weren't, so you don't.

Though less harsh than what it could have been, Zimmerman still had to pay a penalty for what he did.

What's most hilarious, of course, is that the two pictures aren't much alike at all. The middle finger is pretty well known inside the US as a generic rude gesture. What De'Marquise is doing is worth looking into as a potential gang sign - his left hand looks to be forming an "M", to me, but I have no clue what he's doing with the right. Even then, there's nothing really definitive there, so it's best to let the local authorities make the call.

So yes, the picture does speak a thousand words, but not about what Zimmerman thinks it does.

Again, it's expedience.

I don't believe you have any more evidence for claiming expedience than I have for claiming it's because the charges would not have stuck.

One of the charges was dropped outright. The other charge was reduced outright - To assault without violence. Non-violent assault. Go figure. I don't recall you or anyone else pointing this out.

At that point, the charge of assault without violence was dropped in exchange for attending a the PTD.

Though less harsh than what it could have been, Zimmerman still had to pay a penalty for what he did.

You say expedience. Seems to me that if the the state was unsure of a successful prosecution, it would be expedient to reduce the charges, and it woudl be expedient to ensure that GZ at least took a PTD instead of walking away scott free. Just saying...

I agree that Trayvon was most likely nowhere near as bad as this De'Marquise character, and that it was ill-conceived on Robert Zimmerman, Jr's part to endorse that comparison. I think Trayvon had probably bought into the "thug life" nonsense to a far lesser degree. The problem is, how was George supposed to know that with this guy on top of him, beating him and refusing to stop?

I personally don't believe Trayvon meant to kill George, as I've said... but again, could George have known that? Trayvon wasn't giving him a lot of reason to view him in a more positive light...

If George's story is true, that is.

Most likely nowhere near as bad? WTF.

Well, in fairness, they're both young, they were both involved in a fatal shooting...

... I guess if there's any other common factor that makes a lot of people make stuff up out of whole cloth about TM?

Isn't Robbert the one that knew all the details of George's financial situation and chose to not be present when the rest of the family gathered in an undisclosed location to offer sworn testimony as to how they all had no money for George's defense?

I suppose if Trayvon intended to kill George he would have actually been beating the crap out of George instead of just restraining him. But you are right to question what is going through George's mind at the time. How is George supposed to tell the difference between actually getting the crap beat out of himself and just imagining that he was getting the crap beat out of himself. George's delusions however do not meet the "reasonably believe" standard required by the self defense laws.

Holy crap!

Robert Zimmerman is taking it all the way home for his beloved brother, isn't he?

Remind me where he lives, and where the 'rest of the family' gathered ?

Remind me which member of the family had the financial details that were one of the primary issues of that hearing. Remind me whose responsibility it was to have everybody prepaired to testify for this hearing.
