Split Thread Conservative Voices (Split from Muller Investigation)

"Forces of intolerance remain determined to undermine and roll back the progress you all have made. This time they have an ally in the White House. Virulent people – some of them the dregs of society."
-- Joe Biden (Sept 16, 2018)

Accomplished without using a single -ist or -ism.

That's terrible. I'm very disappointed at that from Biden. I got to chat with him a few times at fundraiser dinners back in the late 90's and I found him to be really genuine...good listener (and not creepy at all!). If not for the plagiarism issue, I think he had a good shot at president in 88. (remember when that was a big deal!!??)

Disappointed? That he doesn't tell it like it is like the Oracle of the Oval Office does? He was polite. I'd prefer he used more Trump-like classy terms like "racist pigs".

I think y'all are confused over there on the right. At least four conservatives in recent weeks have admonished debate opponents here for "rudeness". Not just in this thread but several others. And we're doing what Donnie Johnny does and his supporters (and offensive line protectors) love... telling it like it is.

You purport to want to have a conversation but get an attack of the vapors when Biden identifies a very serious segment of the current GOP? Unfortunately, we used to be able to isolate the state GOPs that were the problem, but those people - and worse - are now in the 45th President's administration and inner circle.

"You're either a supporter of misogyny, xenophobia and racism or you're an enabler, and at this juncture, that's really a distinction without a difference."

I made that statement at the time of the '16 election. It now applies even more. He's shown his hand and there's absolutely no excuse for running interference for Trump if you claim that you find him detestable. His policies and beliefs are the NEW GOP. The saner voices have quit the party or given up their seats.

Come to California... to my circle of non-white women conservatives..
Seriously. (ok maybe not every single one! The Ethiopians are very conservative though)
You. Have. No. Idea.
I am the most liberal of the group! Or perhaps the most rude?

Come stay a Month. I heard Mumbles say he had never even been to California. wow. It's a minority conservative town here. Different viewpoints should be learned before people start spouting things about all areas. Mumbles....seriously...do not say a single thing about race relations in 'USA' unless you know what the hell goes on in California. We are the big fish

eta: I should add the given that CA is a big big big place....I live i the south and grew up straddling OC and LA counties. I live slightly on the OC side today. (CA-39). I wrote for our chamber of commerce (editor) on demographics and the largest issue of concern was lack of Asian representation (and very valid).

Excuse me, but are you claiming that because there are some minority conservative voters that the GOP doesn't have a racist issue? I mean, that's pretty stupid if that's what you're saying.

Globalists and progressives seem to have some similar agendas to me. One being open borders. Some progressives also seem to support socialism.

Please, where is this clarion call for open borders? I'm not hearing it. You seem to be confusing wanting humane enforcement of our immigration laws with open borders. Or perhaps it's the entirely sane and reasonable objection to a border wall we don't need and can't afford as a call for open borders? Setting aside a few fringe voices, the Democratic Party is not calling for open borders.

Globalists in the sense of "investors and companies" want the free flow of money globally, but they are opposed to the free movement of labor - otherwise they would lose the advantage of lower labor costs.

I keep saying this: there are many, many conservative voters among most minority groups. They, particularly as you look to younger groups, groups that didn't recently immigrate from totalitarian communist countries, and *especially* black communities, vote almost entirely for democrats.

Meanwhile, we just keep seeing white supremacists dressing like Dolt 45 and donning MAGA hats while shouting Neo-Nazi slogans, a GOP president who made his political start through a brazenly racist conspiracy theory, and who kicked off his campaign with a racist smear of "Mexicans", and we keep seeing GOP candidates who run as neo-confederates (while also carpetbagging - how does this even work!?), who have major contributors who freely post racial slurs on social media, and so forth.

Anyone who wants to insist that the GOP is totally non-racist needs to ask a very simply question: why do neo-nazis keep flocking to them, and the groups at the forefront of civil rights absolutely despise them?

Somehow, there's always time to complain about hurt feelings of those poor poor white republicans, but no time to consider this very simple question - except to insist that the vast majority of black people are slaves on some metaphorical "democrat plantation", which is basically no different than calling us Sambos.

Also, I've spoken to black people from Cali. And Florida.and the midwest. They all hate the GOP. The only variation is how they feel about the democrats - that seems to vary almost from person to person.

ETA:, I'd also like to express my amusement at the idea of Cali as some singularly important spot for of black American political expression. Nah, that's the south, obviously, even most of us from outside there will agree. So, how about you check your own mouth?

That's a non-response to the points I raised.

Now I know you’re trolling.

I don't think he's entirely wrong. I think there's a definite left lean to the forum; has been since forever, and moreso now that many of our old conservative members left or have been banned. As for the second claim, well, in politics it might not show too much, but in other sections of the forum I have noticed a certain breaking down of rational discourse. Again this is partly due to many of our more thoughtful members leaving.

Reminds me of the John Birchers calling Nixon a commie.

Yeah, they actually did that. The Kochs and the Federalist Society are the spawn of the Birchers lest you think it was some insignificant fringe.

I suspect the Kochs and their crew of billionaire union organizations (that go back to the 30's and organized to oppose FDR's New Deal, the Prescott Bush crowd) just use and promote the loony "christian conservaitive" types while quietly thinking they're insane.

Which sections?

The Kochs weren't spawned from the John Birch society. The father of the Koch Brothers was nvolved in the formation of the John Birch Society and the Federalist Society. There is probably no one on the right more involved in what was a fringe right ideology that has become mainstream than the Kochs. If you really want to see a political conspiracy right out in the open see what the Kochs have been doing for the last 50 years. I hate them but I have to tip my cap to how effective they have been.

The grandfather, too, going back to 1888. He was part of the railroad monopoly "robber baron" crowd.

Little has been written about Harry Koch. He’s the least-known member of the Koch family. What has not been reported is that the Koch family has been marching under the same laissez-faire banner for the past three generations, ever since Harry emigrated to America in 1888, settled in a North Texas railroad town and became an aggressive newspaper publisher and booster. He shamelessly shilled for railroad and banking interests, amassing his wealth by helping big business fight organized labor and squelch reforms.

Much of the Koch brothers’ ideology can be found in Harry Koch’s newspaper editorials of nearly a century ago. Take, for instance, the Kochs’ current fight against Social Security. Harry Koch took part in a multi-year right-wing propaganda campaign to shoot down New Deal programs. Grandfather and grandsons employ eerily familiar talking points to bash government pension and welfare programs.

So what if there is?

Can we separate cause and effect? Because this forum tends to be frequented by intelligent, reasonable, well read people whose opinions can be swayed by evidence. Those type of people do tend to be left leaning.

What's next, you'll bemoan the low representation of creationists, flat earthers, and truthers here?
