A search within this Subforum didn't reveal a similar thread,
so let me ask directly - even if this Issue surfaced already in
one or the other Thread-Derail:
Probably all of you heard some people comparing the current
White House/Bush/Cheney etc. to the Nazi-Regime/Hitler - and
the similarities about how both Administrations "adjust" democratic
regulations in a way that rather limits freedoms.
Now many arguments I heard so far seem to be pretty far-fetched
or simply straightway wrong. Here are some examples for Issues
that get compared between both Administrations:
Guantanamo - Auschwitz
Patriot Act - Enabling Act
911 Attacks - Reichstag fire
Habeas corpus - Reichstag Fire Decree
Blackwater - SS
Iraq invasion - Poland invasion
Feel free to add - if you remember comparisons I forgot here...

Just recently Colbert had an Author on his show who did write
a book about "The End of America: A Letter of Warning To A Young Patriot.":
The Colbert Report: Naomi Wolf on Fascism in America
There's also a Website that sums up some of these comparisons:
So my question is:
From a skeptic point of view: How far-fetched are these comparisons
and which ones are realistic and indeed comparable?

ETA: Even if it may sound like a bad joke for some people, the thread
has a serious question because Germans in the 1930's would have
laughed about such a thread as well.
And we all know what came after the laughter, don't we?
