Yes, that's prbably right. Take a look at CD videos of buildings, and even ones significantly smaller than the WTC towers show a lot more, more obvious, and louder, explosions than anything seen on 9/11. Even if these "squibs" were explosives, they still wouldn't be enough to produce a collapse.

Thanks I am looking for the clincher against CD - see most buildings. You cut the external frame from the inside, so you avoid having to spend time removing facade work. With the towers though. The facade 'is' the support system. So it has to be exploded. Only this time (By my thinking) You can't access the facade from the inside

I'm not an expert at CD, but I would think that you would have to demolish the structure much lower than the actual collapse started, unless you figure out how to make explosives that don't burn up in a huge jet fuel fire.

It's an interesting proposition. Remember my girder analogy; the loss of intermediate structural elements could have what would appear (to a layperson) to have a dispropportionately adverse impact on the integrity of the whole.

Given that the floor transfers the loads from the outer structural envelope to the inner core, there's probably an argument that if you took out the floor connections then you could destabilise the structure.

The problems with this are fairly obvious, however; the facade might deflect externally, instead of internally, which would be a bit of a giveaway. Also looking at the floor build-up, with the 100mm in-situ concrete deck, it would be extremely difficult to reach the connections in order to place explosives.

Also we wouldn't see the "squibs" claimed by the CTers, because the force would be directed inwards.

The nail in the coffin for me would be ensuring that such a subtle CD system would produce the grand, catastrophic (and above all secret) failure that would be intended.
