Common Nightmares

Originally posted by Just thinking I too rarely remember the composition of my dreams ... but sometimes an event will occur (during the day while I'm fully awake) that will remind me of something I dreamt about and thus will get me to recall my dream. Does this happen to anyone?
Yeah, and it made me wonder whether maybe the dreams aren't actually created while I'm asleep. What if dreams are something constructed by the waking mind, and we just dream that they happened while were asleep? Try to wrap your mind around that one.

When I was in watchmaking school, I used to wake up and find myself searching the bed for a critical watch part that I'd dropped while repairing the watch in my dreams. So much for sleep paralysis.

I had an especially vivid recurring dream where I had my throat slit in a parking lot by three men, vivid enough to where I can see their faces clearly even now.

I find that I can recall a significant portion of my dreams right after I wake up, but they fade out in just a few seconds or minutes. Must be some self-cleaning memory dump built in to my brain.

I did use the memories from a dream flying sequence as a passage in a novel where one character was telepathically sharing the dreams of a dragon. The level of detail I used got me some rather startled looks from the people I shared it with.

Well, in a sense all dreams ARE created by the waking mind because we dream about the real world, which our conscious mind perceives.

But I was taught by the Fraudians that all dreams arose from the unconscious.
Or maybe that was just another butterfly dream.
