I think it's best to keep the original thread "clean" of comments and derailments and post them in another thread, e.g. here.

This story posted by Loki is the saddest thing I've ever read. By far.
Damn, I'm just speechless. I wanted to add something to this but there's no words to describe how I feel about these people.

edited to add link

Same here. :( I felt absolute sick when I read that transcript.

Me too. I couldn't read it all.

Did these people get jail time? Hope so - stupid, dumb f**ks...

From here:
"Julie Ponder and Connell Watkins,Colorado therapists, were convicted in April of child abuse in the death of 10-year-old Candace Newmaker. Newmaker died after undergoing “rebirthing” therapy, in which the therapists wrapped her in a flannel sheet and instructed her to struggle out to simulate birth, thus becoming “reborn” to her adoptive mother. Newmaker spent 70 minutes in the blanket and later died of asphyxiation. Ponder and Watkins were sentenced to 16 years in prison."

Yes. I agree with all the comments above. I love children, I have three of my own. 16 years wasn't good enough, IMHO. Should have been life without parole or death.

I wish them the worst of prison experiences.

wtf???

what happened to the mother?
why didn't she try and stop this when it became obvious the child was in extreme distress?

Absolutely horrific, have a hard time finding the words to express the disgust and sorrow from this.

Sick :(

This has been on my mind ever since I read it (several days ago). When I read it I wanted to post something but I felt that there should be some sort of in-memorium silence.

I was absolutely disgusted when Beth posted soon aftwerwards without even a reference to it. IF YOU ARE READING - READ IT AGAIN, THINNK ABOUT IT - USE YOUR F%%%%%G BRAIN.That could be your child.

For those interested in the details :

They genuinely didn't think they were doing anything wrong! From here
A soft-spoken Julie Ponder steadfastly denied Thursday that she risked Candace Newmaker's life
...
Like Watkins who testified the day before, Ponder didn't show any remorse nor offer an apology.
...
Ponder said she wouldn't call rebirthing "experimental" but rather "non-traditional."

And they have supporters
To convince an uninformed jury that Connell, her colleagues and the mother had only the highest and best intentions of healing this child, and not of shaming or in any way hurting this child, will be a huge challenge

But perhaps there's some good to come from it. From here
Gov. Bill Owens hugged Candace Newmaker's grandmother Tuesday after he signed a bill banning the rebirthing therapy technique that allegedly took the 10-year-old's life.

Still I guess this is all just anecdotal, and afterall rebirthing is VERY scientific. From here
The technique of rebirthing is typically taught in ten to twenty sessions, one session per week, with each session normally lasting 1 to 3 hours.

A typical rebirthing session consists of one hour of concentrated breathwork, with about half an hour to two hours of counselling and discussion.

The purpose of the breathwork is to stimulate the consciousness of the individual cells of the body, and promote the merging of the "conscious" and "subconscious" minds. It has been found that this breathwork is the most powerful means of accessing the subconscious and thus cleansing it of suppressed, blocked emotion.
...
The one hour of breathwork is mostly done "dry", ie lying on a bed or mattress with a blanket drawn up to the chest. However, when you are ready, your rebirther will recommend "wet" sessions, ie immersed in water, breathing through a snorkel. Wet sessions, which can be done "cold" (20-30 degrees C) or "warm" (36-42 degrees C) bring about faster and more dramatic results, especially when combined with dry sessions, than can be achieved with dry sessions alone

From what I have seen the rebirthing groups are trying to reinvent themselves as a load of breething exercises.
