Cute little story for the weekend, a cat that went missing 5 years ago in Colorado was found in NYC 1,600 miles away. Willow was brought to an animal shelter, where they were able to find her family thanks to a microchip implanted in her.
Still a mystery as to how she got there or what has happened to her over the last few years. The cat was found to be healthy, in good condition, and well mannered.

My own cat was found by my father in a parking lot. He had been fixed, and was very affectionate and friendly, but he had no microchip and we were never able to locate his owners. He was a delightful addition to the household, but I have always felt bad that somewhere out there his family probably thinks he became roadkill or a coyote's dinner.
This is why I have both my cats microchipped!
