Colbert Study: Conservatives don't know he's joking

No, translation is that you are displaying an obvious case of heavy confirmation bias, and I tire of trying to reason with fanaticism.

So the fact that he goes out of his way when out of character to explain that his character is a satire of right wing idiot does not convince you that his character is a satire of a right wing idiot?

What would?

Hello, strawman, have you met the tin man?

I never argued that Colbert's character was not a satire of the O'Reilly/Hannity/Limbaugh model. I said that his act is a joke on everyone, that he makes fun of both sides of the ideological fence. If you can find a post in this thread where I argued what you are suggesting I argued, I will make it a point to post an apology for my error and thank you for correcting me.

Colbert does not make equal fun of both sides and you have ignored numerous requests that you cite some examples of him making equal fun of the left (again, all of Colbert clips are available on his site).

Colbert does not make equal fun of both sides.
No he does not. His comedy is biased. I happen to like his bias, but I wouldn't dream of denying that he leans heavily to the left in his bits. I think his performance at the White House, a place where most people are gentle on the administration in power, makes that obvious. But you can't ignore a perfect opportunity like Blago or Spitzer. He's a comedian first and a partisan second.

Maybe I'm reading GreNME wrong, but I don't believe that's his claim.

My take on Colbert (which might not be GreNME's) is that the satire is clearly of conservatives who agree with, and are fans of O'Reily etc.

so the the joke is on

a) "Oreily-Conservatives" who are the targets of the satire (and might well be laughing at themselves if they get it)

b) "Oreily-Conservatives" who don't realize that they are being made fun of (ie, the ones the OP's article is about)

and c) liberals who think that ALL conservatives are really like Colbert's over-the-top character (the radical left to overgeneralize)

It's not equal opportunity, but it does fall on both sides of the fence - as good satire often does.

I have not said there are no Colbert, (or Stewart for that matter), jokes against liberals. I have said the jokes against conservatives swipe with a broad brush and those against liberals are merely here and there against individual targets.

GreNME can correct the misconception if it is one, but I take it he's saying the jokes are equally toward both sides of the isle.

Actually, I'd like to point it out as just another instance of you projecting arguments that were never made into the disagreement so that you can avoid admitting being incorrect.

But you know what? I don't care enough about this topic to go on and on with you about it. If you want to believe that's what happened, don't let reality or myself stop you from believing that's the case.

Is there a clarification in here somewhere? Which is it you are saying, is Colbert is joking equally about liberals and conservatives or not?
