CNN Doxxes a gif maker

Of course this is BS of the highest order -- a bare naked semantic dodge. Highly unimpressive.

You are aware that CNN's claim that "The GIF was later edited into a video with sound and tweeted by the President on Sunday" is false, correct?

You know this, yes? Because the failure to know this would indeed be highly unimpressive indeed.

And yet the hacking and releasing of private emails is ok.

Simply amazing.

I don't believe that CNN hacked or released private emails to doxx this guy, but if you have evidence of such that would be relevant to this thread, i would certainly like to see it.

Isn't all this just nitpicking? Yes, he didn't "re"-tweet it. Ok, we get it. He did post it though, didn't he?

Fascinating.

Scary you mean.

We know for a fact that one of the primary meme factories that the US President uses is that of raging anti-semites.

This is the President of the US, with the most powerful military at his back. We've seen this movie before. World leader + raging anti semite. It didn't turn out so good.

You know this, yes? Because the ability to know this would indeed be highly impressive indeed.

On Monday, a senior administration official told CNN that the video was not pulled from Reddit. The White House still has not responded to a series of questions from CNN asking how the video ended up as a tweet from the President.

So unless the white house told you, you don't know either.

It was simply a comment on your outrage over the CNN story, so entirely relevant to the OP.

I find it fascinating what you consider an offense and what you consider fair play.

Entirley on point.

Ah, absolutely nothing to do with the subject matter of the thread, just attacking the arguer. Bold move.

Fascinating little post on Reddit, bringing up where Hanassholesolo wishes a doxxing upon someone ...

Fascinating indeed that you consider pointing out utterly false statements "nitpicking."

He re-posted something via a tweet. While that may not be actually re-tweeting in the technical sense of the term, calling it "utterly false" is pretty amusing. And stupid.

If your only goal is to nay-say "liberals" here then you're succeeding. But if your goal is to make rational and smart discussion, you're failing.

There are no refs.
“The people are the only censors of their governors: and even their errors will tend to keep these to the true principles of their institution. To punish these errors too severely would be to suppress the only safeguard of the public liberty. The way to prevent these irregular interpositions of the people is to give them full information of their affairs thro’ the channel of the public papers, & to contrive that those papers should penetrate the whole mass of the people. The basis of our governments being the opinion of the people, the very first object should be to keep that right; and were it left to me to decide whether we should have a government without newspapers or newspapers without a government, I should not hesitate a moment to prefer the latter. But I should mean that every man should receive those papers & be capable of reading them.”

Bolding mine, wording Jefferson's.

The video posted by Trump, with sound, cannot possibly come from a GIF. GIFs don't have sound. This has been explained already. It can only come from another source, which may be the same source as was used to _make_ the GIF.

Offering comment on your opinion of the OP is not "attacking the arguer" but staying entirely on point of the posted article.

I's say your continued off topic responses about my defense of said comments is more in danger of moderation. You're surely welcome to test this by reporting said comments.

"And stupid."

Not retweeted, then? Good progress, but we have cottoned on to another new claim (that was destroyed in this thread yesterday)

"re-posted." Ahh, but that is false too, you know, because what Trump posted and what the doxxeee posted are not the same.

But you said "And stupid." Accordingly, I guess, the thread is over.

For "And stupid." has been posted, notwithstanding the actual facts.

Oh well.

Uhm, thanks ?

TBD is claiming CNN is wrong. CNN says the tweet was a derivative of the GIF. TBD claims it's not ... but he doesn't have a basis for that claim.

And, BTW, it's stupid simple to make a video from a GIF, so it did not have to come from another source.

(I didn't do any analysis, so it might have, but IDK, and TBD doesn't know)

Uh huh. Say I missed the part about "the hacking and releasing of private emails" in the "posted article."

Perhaps you could point that out? In the posted article?

Surely that should be quite easy to do.

No, stupid progress. It's like insisting that piracy is not theft. While it might be technically true it's not very useful to the discussion, and seems to be used only to avoid discussing the meat of the issue.

"re-posted." Ahh, but that is false too, you know, because what Trump posted and what the doxxeee posted are not the same.

1) I didn't say he re-posted what the guy posted. Your claim was that he didn't re-tweet "anything". He didn't create it, so he had to re-post it from somewhere.

2) No doxxing was involved.

But you said "And stupid." Accordingly, I guess, the thread is over.

No, it's still running. But your comment was still stupid.

Your sarcasm seems misplaced. While you can create a video from a GIF you'd still not have sound. A GIF does not have sound. Ergo, Trump's video is not derivative of the GIF. It has to be the other way around: the GIF was made from the video (I'll also add that GIFs are limited to 256 colours, so they usually have quite a loss of quality over modern videos.)

Uh huh. Say I missed the part about "the hacking and releasing of private emails" in the "posted article."

I don't believe anything about hacked emails was in the posted article.

I don't believe I said it was.

How narrowly focused do you wish to keep this discussion? I believe you made a reference to both "threatening journalists" and Harry Potter which weren't in the posted article either.

Again, it's fascinating what you find offensive and what you find fair play.

Thus was my original comment to your OP.

He didn't create it, so he had to re-post it from somewhere..

The subtle stampede of the goalposts.

Trump didn't retweet the doxxee's post, Trump did not repost the doxxee's gif.

And thus any credibility the CNN nonsense article tying Trump to the doxxeee?

Fake news, folks, get pissed at CNN.
