My mistake. It was a different thread where it was referenced and a side discussion started. I'll try to find it. The Chris Christie thread was going strong when I was still enamored with Amanda Knox and MH370.

Well, that's a relief.

I'd hate to think you would tell a lie in order to bolster a false impression of evenhandedness and belie the notion that your stance on this issue is purely partisan.

Hillary refuses private interview

Cowboy server wrangler and non-tipping chipotle customer refuses to sit for private interview about her destruction of documents.

Anyone surprised?

Note the hilarious comments from Elijah Cummings, yes this is supposed to be an investigation, so please stop abasing yourself by being one of the subjects of the investigation's designated water carrier.

Indeed, you and Grizzly both spring to mind as people who are bothered, but are honest or realistic enough to not expect much out of it. The "everybody agrees with me" duo have been the only ones desperately trying to wrongly apply inapplicable laws, or invent conspiracy theories as to why the DOJ doesn't hunt the democrats the conspiracy theorists don't like (Clinton and Lerner, at least).

Avid readers of the thread, even conservatives, are not secretly, silently agreeing with the HDS sufferers.
More or less... The area I'm finding friction with 16.5 on isn't necessarily that I disagree with him that what Hillary did was dishonest, but there's a lot of bloating and over saturation on the scale of this issue. When I likened it to "crying wolf" this is what I meant... It's worth pointing out she lied, but as I learned through my extensive experience in the CT section saturating discussions on a singular issue among a much broader judgement call leads people into debate fatigue to the point people no longer give much care to the rhetoric and generally dilute the facts of the issue. '

My take on the matter is these are things to be aware of... even if really only as a disclaimer... we just went through a gubernatorial election here in Florida last year, and my choices were between a sleezeball and a chronic flip flopper.... given that context, I voted knowing my disclaimers and hoped my choice was the better one.

With 19 months between now and the 2016 elections.... I don't consider Hillary to be my vote.... I'm leaning republican, but the choice is going to ultimately come down to both the final selection I have, and the balance of these issues... so my vote's somewhat open to change if the situation necessitates.... at least I'm going to try and vote that way any way...

This is an ongoing investigation. There are developments virtually every day.

I posted two articles including new information that came out in the last six hours.

Not sure how that makes me the bad guy, unlike the, you know, other posters who appear to be obsessed with me and generally dilute the thread with worthless posts.

I cannot speak for others, but (IMHO) you're not "the bad guy". I'm a bit of an existentialist and there is no a priori bad and good. You are what you are and what you choose to be. Judgements of good and bad don't come into it.

What you are, quite apparent to anyone who can read, is an ideological partisan. This is a mini-version of the Bubba hearings. Get a special prosecutor, start down one trail and hit a dead-end. Go down a new trail and hit another dead end. Keep going down trails until you find something totally unrelated to the aegis under which the investigation was set-up and find something, anything, to pin on the person being investigated.

In no other quasi-judicial/prosecutorial system in the USA is this tolerated. If the local police in even, say, New Orleans (picking my home town, noted for police corruption) went to the staunchest law and order judge in the city and said "I just know Chaz Lafontaine out on Bayou Lafouche is up to something. Can I have a warrant to go through everything he's ever said and done and written in the past twenty years to see if I can find something to pin on him?".... The judge would toss him out of his office.

How are Hillary's emails on foundation business remotely related to the original scope of Gowdy's committee? They're not. Nor are her discussions with a potential newhire. They're just casting the net in the Bubba mode and hoping they find an intern on her hands and knees. That's why I mentioned that the "email" thread is a Godsend. It can cover any topic in Hillary's entire life. Does anyone think for a second that if Hillary mentioned in a personal email to Chelsea that she actually thought Marco Rubio was kinda hawt, that Gowdy and friends wouldn't find a way to introduce that or leak it?

And, as to this "partisan" issue.... I'm not a Hillary supporter. Never have been. If she's what the Dems have running, I'll probably support her because the GOP hasn't got a candidate remotely resembling someone I'd vote for. But I'd take any number of hypothetical candidates over Hillary. My posts are not in defense of Hillary. They are related to the concern for the blatant partisanship of this and the Benghazi thread. It was no better when the left did it to Dubya, by the way. People aren't going after "Issues" that concern them. They are going after people whose very existence they question and then looking for issues.

1. You just concluded that the emails concern "foundation business." Did you notice that? On what basis did you come to that conclusion? Hillary's word? I'm skeptical, would that others would be as well.

2. Gowdy's committee is charged with identifying and reviewing documents related to the attack. This administration has proven that it is unwilling to cooperate (talking points documents, ARB documents and Hillary emails all were improperly withheld). Now Hillary is imperiously admitting that it destroyed documents. Why trust her? I don't, and neither should anyone else.

3. this thread is broader than Benghazi. The GE article did not come from Gowdy, it came from a journalist at the GE shareholder meeting.

Wow, talk about damning with faint praise. Or perhaps praising with faint damn. 16.5 is doing a yeoman's job of keeping us up-to-date on the Benghazi investigation and on Hillary's email scandal. If people don't want to read about that stuff, all they have to do is ignore the threads. It's not like he's polluting other threads with it. He is quite diligent about confining all things Benghazi and email related to their proper threads. If I were a partisan Democrat, I would feel grateful for 16.5's efforts, since I could be confident of seeing the best the Republicans have to throw at Hillary and be ready to respond. Know your enemy and all that, and, in particular, know what he knows.

As for why he has decided to shoulder this burden, I have no idea. I find the topics interesting, and they're made more interesting by the fact that many in the mainstream media do their level best to ignore them, but I don't have nearly the level of interest that 16.5 does. We all have our pet projects though. For the life of me, I can't figure out why people want to argue with 9/11 truthers or the assorted woo-ists spread around this forum, but I suppose it is a kind of sport that keeps your writing biting and your wits sharp. Of course, from my perspective, the abuse that 16.5 receives for pursuing a legitimate line of inquiry is fascinating in its own right.

What you are, quite apparent to anyone who can read, is an ideological partisan. This is a mini-version of the Bubba hearings. Get a special prosecutor, start down one trail and hit a dead-end. No, this analogy doesn't hold water. The various Benghazi investigations have all been focused on the actual incident and the responses to it by the various branches of government. This is not something that has spread its tentacles in various directions. If it seems like it is dragging on and on, it is only because the investigation has been willfully obstructed. There is really no denying that, given that the various investigating committees had been told by the State Department that there were no Hillary Clinton emails that were responsive to their subpoenas. This truly is an example of a lie by omission, by the way, since the only reasonable assumption was that the State Department had possession of all of Hillary Clinton's work-related emails.

Well, I suspect you're wrong about that since my last thread is about prosecutors in Wisconsin doing that very thing and then some, and Louisiana is hardly better than Wisconsin in that regard. In any case, the Benghazi investigations are nothing like that. Just because an investigation is persistent about obtaining documents that it is entitled to review doesn't mean that it is a witch hunt.

Does anyone think for a second that if Hillary mentioned in a personal email to Chelsea that she actually thought Marco Rubio was kinda hawt, that Gowdy and friends wouldn't find a way to introduce that or leak it?

As 16.5 has pointed out, this had nothing to do with Gowdy's committee. The story was about a question asked by a reporter at a GE shareholder meeting. Is now the media conducting a witch hunt because it is trying to find information about Clinton Foundation donations?

And, as to this "partisan" issue.... I'm not a Hillary supporter. Never have been. If she's what the Dems have running, I'll probably support her because the GOP hasn't got a candidate remotely resembling someone I'd vote for. I think your claim to be concerned about "blatant" partisanship in those threads is itself a "tell" about your own partisan bias. A non-partisan wouldn't be concerned. He would either be interested or he would skip over it. In any case, I've got similar news to report. I wouldn't even mind Hillary as President very much. I think her and her husband's world views, to the extent they can be disentangled from any current political expediency, align with mine to a large extent, particularly on foreign policy. I think Bill would provide good advice and generally be both a positive force in the White House and a source of comedic gold as he turned the East Wing into a kind of Playboy Mansion. I am not going to deny that I have a partisan bias though.

Anyone surprised?

Of course we're not surprised. She (her attorney) has said all along she was willing to answer questions in a public hearing....

“Hillary Rodham Clinton’s lawyer told Representative Trey Gowdy, chairman of the House committee investigating the 2012 Benghazi attacks, that she saw no need for a private interview over her use of a private email account while secretary of state and asked that he not delay her next appearance before the committee.

Perfectly reasonable... why is Gowdy trying to delay this process and work against the public interest ?

Note the hilarious comments from Elijah Cummings, yes this is supposed to be an investigation, so please stop abasing yourself by being one of the subjects of the investigation's designated water carrier.

Mr. Cummings said that at its current pace, the Benghazi investigation was on track to last longer than the inquiries into Iran-Contra, the Kennedy assassination, Watergate and the 9/11 terror attacks.

The GE article did not come from Gowdy, it came from a journalist questioner at the GE shareholder meeting.

Let me amend this. The question at the GE shareholders meeting came from Justin Danhof of the National Center For Public Policy Research, and to call him a journalist is perhaps a stretch (kind of like calling media matters journalism).

I apologize for any confusion.

As pointed out repeatedly The Obama Administration, and Hillary Clinton in particular, has repeatedly delayed the investigations by withholding and destroying documents.

If they were so concerned about the progress of the investigation they would have turned over the server months ago, and Hillary would have disclosed the fact that she had not previously turned over her emails during her ORIGINAL testimony. She did not.

It is not perfectly reasonable. Public hearings have strict time limits for questions, and it's very easy for a witness to run out the clock, especially when she has almost half of the people on the panel aiding and abetting her. On top of that, some questions and answers involve subject matter which should remain private. In a public meeting, it's very easy for a witness to say, in response to an uncomfortable question, "I am not at liberty to discuss that because it's private."

In fact, the purpose of a public hearing is almost never to advance the investigation, but rather to present the results of the investigation to the public. Gowdy's committee is still at the stage of gathering evidence.

Clinton Foundation to Refile Tax returns, Were Emails Destroyed?

First some background. Reuters reported Thursday that the Clinton family’s charities are refiling at least five annual tax returns because of errors in reporting donations from foreign governments.

The errors are on forms called 990, which the IRS requires charity organizations to file every year to keep their tax-exempt status. Starting in 2010, and continuing for three years, the Clinton Foundation’s report said that it did not receive any funds from foreign and U.S. governments, a stark contrast from reported donations in the previous years.

We know that Hillary said during her abbreviated press conference at the UN that she destroyed documents relating to "personal" issues. And some have been content to take her at her word.

What she did not mention (and has not mentioned since then) is whether those "private" emails included the Clinton Family Foundation, and the numerous conflicts regarding her work as Secretary of State, and donations from foreign nations.

We know that the State Department has taken the very unusual step of providing documents to the Clintons prior to turning them over under FOIA

The State Department just disclosed that it turned over 128 records to the Clinton Foundation for review under Exemption 4 of FOIA.

Nixon had blank tape recordings, and Hillary had 30,000 destroyed emails.

Yup, it's called politics.

And Gowdy et al are clearly very poor at it.

In fact, the purpose of a public hearing is almost never to advance the investigation, but rather to present the results of the investigation to the public. Gowdy's committee is still at the stage of gathering evidence.

Yup, still gathering evidence ... forever gathering evidence ... keep searching for that evidence ...

Yes, you have claimed that in the past. The evidence, however, is lacking.

If they were so concerned about the progress of the investigation they would have turned over the server months ago, and Hillary would have disclosed the fact that she had not previously turned over her emails during her ORIGINAL testimony. She did not.

Why would they turn over a private server when they don't have to ?

Oh yes, because maybe there is evidence relating to monica lewinski vince foster clinton foundation huma benghazi on there ...
and how would we know until you prove there isn't any evidence there, amiright ?
