Do you think she didn't have a phone with her when she carried her iPad? That seems hard to believe. I guess it's possible she only used the iPad at home curled up in front of the fire, but more than likely she carried it somewhere.

There wasn't even such a thing as an iPad when she became SoS.

What I think is, in 2009, she wanted to use a single device for mobile communication, and it was much easier and gave her much more control to use her personal email address and carry one phone, mixing personal and work email. It may not have worked the same (at that time) if she had used a .gov email. She may have had to use a seperate device. IDK, this is speculation, and I have speculated about it earlier in the thread.

I feel a bit silly getting in on this part of the argument, but you are really reaching here. The person being the most silly though, is Hillary.

She said:
“Looking back, it would have been probably, you know, smarter to have used two devices,” Clinton said. Her office that day released a statement saying she “wanted the simplicity of using one device”.

We now know she did use two devices.

She did. But that's really not the same being forced to use two separate devices, one for work only, one for home only.

Think about it this way ... would you call her a liar if she also sent an email from a laptop ? That would mean she may have literally been carrying two devices ... a phone and laptop ! That would mean she was totally lying about only wanting to carry 1 device .... right ?? Right ?

Or ... not so much. Times change. Technology changes. I like to use my ipad instead of my phone sometimes because the screen is bigger. I prefer to use a device with a physical keyboard to respond to posts, because I find it easier to type, cut-n-paste, and look up things when responding.

She can't seem to come clean about anything. The only thing transparent about her is her evasiveness. Actually that could be considered a point in her favor if you twist it a little. At least we know how and when she's full of excrement.

That seems par for the course for most lawyers and politicians. :)

Whether or not any laws were broken, she has done, and continues to do everything she can to keep the contents of her communications under her complete control. She can't even keep her own stories straight.

I agree with the former, not with the latter. I think it's a silly nit to be picking.

:jaw-dropp C'mon man! Of course she used the server to skirt the system. That was the whole point. Everybody who's paying attention knows that. And Hillary knows that everybody who's paying attention knows that. The only question is whether everybody who's paying attention knows that Hillary knows that everybody who's paying attention knows that.

Get back to me when your reading comprehension is fixed.

MMMMMmeeeeehhh..... I saw the criticism being legit about her email set up... just not to the degree necessarily it's been taken to in the thread. She's got explaining to do, but since I'm not concerned about her actions being strictly illegal I'm treating them all as negatives to her job qualifications. Which is appropriate enough in judging her character and merits for the job.

If there's anything I'd point out in her deleting the emails, I'd potentially mention the foreign money, but even that's not illegal, just dubious, and worth mentioning to voters.

:( *sigh* for some reason though I just can't get myself surprised. A lot of what she's doing is political maneuvering which is difficult to get overly shocked at given how common place it is. When Bush was mentioned ealier in-thread the only thing I could point out as "better" was that he jumped ahead of the criticism and released his emails himself, but his habits just prove that what Hillary did isn't a one-party issue.

And when I do that... that stupid common sense thing inhibits my ability to make snarky remarks.... ._.

A very well thought out, and explained post. I agree with everything you said. While this isn't illegal, it does say certain things about her character.

A laptop is not considered a mobile device. We both know what is being discussed here though.

You think she used her own server for the convenience. I think she used the server for secrecy and control. Printing and delivering 55,000 pages of emails, enough to fill 11 boxes of paper, is not convenient. Deciding who gets to see what, sharing that, and then destroying everything is convenient for her, I'll give you that.

That seems par for the course for most lawyers and politicians. :)
Politicians do lie and evade, but Hillary takes it to a new level. Having her own server, wiping it clean, changing the details of her excuses - come on man, I expect politicians of her level to do much better. She isn't even a good liar.

Whether or not any laws were broken, she has done, and continues to do everything she can to keep the contents of her communications under her complete control. She can't even keep her own stories straight.

She seems to writing the script as she goes. One device - well no two devices. Keyword search - well no we did more than that of course! She expects us to trust her and I do not. All the little "nits" add up to a big fat liar. :)

As I've said several times, I don't care if she broke any laws, she's a lawyer and knows just how far she can go with this. The whole thing makes her look really bad though, even for a politician. She is acting like she has something to hide.

If her behavior doesn't bother you that's fine, it bothers me a lot. That's about it.

Another nail in the Clinton Presidential Coffin (CPC) is this latest poll showing the email scandal has sent her chances of being elected into a death spiral.

Of course that's not what the story actually says, but it seems we are allowed quite a bit of latitude on interpreting the facts of such articles.

So here is the quote that started this:

It should come as no surprise to anyone at any time that Hillary Clinton was not telling the truth when she said she was using a single device for "convenience."

Right. In 2009, she didn't want to carry multiple devices. 2 years later, she had a second device, that while still being a "mobile device" is completely different than a cell phone.

And she used that to send emails, because she could.

I really don't see how that has any dire implications regarding a scenario 2 years prior.

You think she used her own server for the convenience. I think she used the server for secrecy and control.

I think having secrecy and control are damn convenient. :) IOW, we don't disagree.

Printing and delivering 55,000 pages of emails, enough to fill 11 boxes of paper, is not convenient.

But it is SOP, and the Dept. of State was going to print them all out. So no points for that one...

Deciding who gets to see what, sharing that, and then destroying everything is convenient for her, I'll give you that.

Yep, damn convenient, especially since the excuse of benghazi is still being used to try to find anything that can be found about anything. Again, I can't blame her for choosing the more expedient route.

Politicians do lie and evade, but Hillary takes it to a new level. Having her own server, wiping it clean, changing the details of her excuses - come on man, I expect politicians of her level to do much better. She isn't even a good liar.

But it's not a new level, it's no different than Jeb in that regard -he used personal email and picked and chose his emails he was willing to disclose. Clinton was just not as well executed.

She seems to writing the script as she goes. One device - well no two devices. Keyword search - well no we did more than that of course! She expects us to trust her and I do not. All the little "nits" add up to a big fat liar. :)

Well, I am curious if it was legal. So far, it still seems to be.

Am I concerned ? Yes. Just not to the same degree as you or others, it seems.

Bush — by far the best known among those running for the GOP nomination — is viewed favorably by just 33 percent of the public

Probably because of all those emails and that homebrew server he used...

Jeb Bush has been a harsh critic of Hillary Clinton’s use of a private email account during her time as secretary of state. But the former Florida governor took seven years to release all his email to comply with Florida’s public records statute. “Mr. Bush delivered the latest batch of 25,000 emails in May 2014, seven and a half years after leaving the Statehouse and just as he started to contemplate a potential run for the White House,” reports the New York Times.

TU QUOQUE OMGZ!!! TU QUOQUE!!!!

who cares about whether a blackberry is a different device than an iPad:

"When I got to work as secretary of state, I opted for convenience to use my personal email account, which was allowed by the State Department, because I thought it would be easier to carry just one device for my work and for my personal emails instead of two. Looking back, it would've been better if I'd simply used a second email account and carried a second phone, but at the time, this didn't seem like an issue."

It turns out she was carrying two devices, and did not opt to use a .gov after she got the iPad.

/man, every time I read Hill's words there, I feel like I need a shower.

hell if he destroyed them like Hillary, he'd probably be in front!

lol

OMG she LIED because she somehow knew that in the future that she would use an iPad that hadn't even been released yet !!!11

Oh don't get me wrong, i was just responding to your little excuses you have been offering, my friend.

There is no way in the world that she set up that cowboy server in her house, "because I thought it would be easier to carry just one device for my work and for my personal emails instead of two."

That is so ridiculous, particularly from someone who was caught on tape saying this:

Senator CLINTON: (From home video) As much as I’ve been investigated and all of that, you know, why would I—I don’t even want—why would I ever want to do e-mail?

Mr. PAUL: (From home video) No, no.

Senator CLINTON: (From home video) Can you imagine?

The point of this little exercise is that Hillary can't even keep her lies straight!!

Also, he keeps saying device. It appears she is saying phone, which isn't exactly the same thing.

When did laptops stop being mobile? I carry mine with me everywhere I go. Then again, in the IT\Networking profession, if I didn't I'd be dismissed from almost anything I got hired to work on.

People still carry laptops? Speaking as a mobile developer, a computer is a computer, a mobile device is a phone or tablet. But whatever, it isn't that important to me.

This server thing isn't enough reason for me to dislike or not trust Hillary, she has earned that over many years. She has wanted the presidency since Bill held the office...she kinda wants it too much in my opinion.

If Jeb did the same thing that Hillary is doing then he's no better. I'm no fan of either of them, or anyone else in the running for that matter, and I don't want another Clinton or Bush in the White House.

I don't know much about Jeb, but I do think he's creepy looking  It amazes me that the Republicans think that a majority of people would want to see any Bush as president again. But, that's the Republican party for ya...heads deep in their own backsides.

Until there are new developments I will take a break from this thread. We've all decided where each of us stand on the issue, and that's fine with me. :)

PS and off topic: What in the Sam Hill is wrong with the quote and edit functions (using Firefox) on this particular board? One minute it works, the next minute it does not. Damn frustrating!

I'm thinking that the meaning of "mobile" in this usage isn't synonymous with "portable". Maybe with a cellular dongle, but that's kinda stretching it.

([reminisce] I am reminded of when the state of the art in portable computers were the Osborne and the Kaypro. That kinda stretched the definition of "portable". As long as "portable" included the equivalent weight of three gallons of water or more. "Transportable" and "luggable" became substitute terms. :) [/reminisce]
