You were the one who asserted that it was irrelevant whether they did or didn't. If it was me, and I couldn't get information from Hillary, I'd go to the recipients. But that's just me.

So you are backing off the witch hunt claims? By the way, that is not how FOIA works, but that is just Federal Law.

/Yes, this thread is about Hillary's emails. If you want to talk about the debt limit, please start a separate thread.

What will Republicans do when this "scandal" fails to prevent Hillary from being elected president?

After Jeb Bush or Christie loses, the'll whine about how a "real conservative" would have beaten Hillary. Or if somebody like Santorum or Cruz get's the nomination, the'll say a mainstream candidate would have won.

Nah. They'll claim that she stole the election because she's an evil corrupt lib (lol) away from the true leaders and patriots of the nation (queue bald eagle crying)

Oh, it's a witch hunt, all right. Won't matter in the grand scheme of things though; Hillary will still win with north of 400 electoral votes, and the Republicans will lose the Senate and (I predict) barely hold on to the House. And the streets of DC will run down with Republican tears.

The Associated Press issuing freedom of information act requests to the State Department in 2010, 2012, and 2013 regarding the following subjects:

1. Two requests seeking Clinton's calendar and schedules.
2. Emails and records regarding Huma Abedin's designation as a Special Governmental Employee
3. Emails regarding the raid on Osama Bin laden's compound
4. Emails regarding NSA surveillance programs
5. Emails regarding BAE Systems' violation of the Arms Control Act.

is a "witch hunt."

Just making sure we are on the same page here.

Why do they want this information?

Really? Ok, lets take the first one. Huma Abedin was designated as a Special Governmental Employee, which allows her to pursue outside employment while at the same time being employed in the private sector.

Questions about Clinton’s use of the special program were first raised in 2013, when it became public that Abedin was being paid by the State Department while also working for an international consulting firm with close ties to Bill and Hillary Clinton.

"After careful deliberation and exhausting our other options, The Associated Press is taking the necessary legal steps to gain access to these important documents, which will shed light on actions by the State Department and former Secretary Clinton, a presumptive 2016 presidential candidate, during some of the most significant issues of our time," said Karen Kaiser, AP's general counsel.

Said AP Executive Editor Kathleen Carroll: "The Freedom of Information Act exists to give citizens a clear view of what government officials are doing on their behalf. When that view is denied, the next resort is the courts."

Fishing expedition. They're after anything that could be twisted into making Hillary look bad.

"They" being The Associated Press. :eye-poppi

While extraordinary claims typically require extraordinary evidence, I'll simply say that I disagree, but would welcome an extended of why The Associated Press* has it for out for Hillary and will twist anything into making Hillary look bad in an appropriate section of the forum.

* and other Media Organizations like the Washington Post

You contend that AP is nefariously trying to make Clinton look bad, as opposed to simply doing their jobs as journalists?

I get it now. I unwittingly slipped into some sort of Bizarro Universe.

OK. How is this in any way improper? Or is the attention to Huma Abedin just an attempt to link Clinton to Anthony Weiner (who just happens to be Abedin's husband)?

ETA: From Wiki:

Senator Chuck Grassley raised questions about Abedin's work as a State Department employee, concerning the fact that she held four jobs[25] from June 2012 to February 2013,[12][26][27][28] as a part-time aide to Clinton while working as a consultant to private clients for consulting firm Teneo Holdings[26][27] and she was working for the Clinton Foundation and also working for Clinton as an assistant.[25] The State Department and Abedin both responded, with the State Department indicating that it uses special government employees routinely "to provide services and expertise that executive agencies require" and Abedin stating that she did not provide any government information or inside information gained from her State Department job to her private employer. Grassley found the letters unresponsive.[28]

You think that the Associated Press and Washington Post issued FOIA requests to the State department regarding her status as a SGE just as a nefarious "attempt to link Clinton to Anthony Weiner"?

That is so ridiculous I am at a loss for words......

there are 11,000 pending foia requests that will be further delayed because Hillary
11,000 requests gives a pretty clear view of what some people are doing - FOIA Harassment.

"They" being The Associated Press.
Yep. Just doing their job - which is to dredge up as much dirt as they can on the front-running presidential candidate, in order to fuel their readers' OUTRAGE and sell more advertizing space. Their livelihoods depend on it!

And if after trolling through 55,000 emails they can't find anything juicy enough to manufacture a scandal out of, then they will just have to make do with spin, innuendo, and quoting out of context - it's what 'journalists' do!

Evidence for this conspiracy?

Wait, what? There are eleven thousand FOIA requests pending? Doesn't that seem a little, well, excessive?

Yes of course it is, particularly given the fact that there open FOIA requests from FIVE YEARS AGO.

The delay in getting these answers is frankly appalling.

Now poor Hillary Clinton is the victim of FOIA "abuse" from the AP and Washington Post, using FOIA to obtain documents to issue reports to publish in the News.

Maybe I am all wet about this Hillary Clinton cowboy/server. It is right and proper that Hillary set this up to avoid FOIA abuse from Newspapers who charge money.

Boo Newspapers, Boo FOIA, Yay Hillary!

/holy crap on a cracker.....
