wait, wait, wait, wait wait!!
Are you saying that the press release put out by the FBI is more accurate than the contemporaneous notes taken during the witness's statement?
THAT is adorable!
What would be unusual about that?
A witness exaggerating his own significance is not exactly front page news.
My first reading of the story left me fearful that there was real ammunition that Donald Trump could use, and which would appeal beyond his base. There may yet be, but it's looking a bit less likely to me.
When I first read the story, it seemed like this email in question was a classified document, and since Hillary had said there were no classified documents except for a few improperly marked ones, a State Department official wanted the FBI to change it so it didn't look bad, and was willing to alter policy toward those ends. That would be very, very bad.
If it were true.
On further review, it looks like this was a document that was unclassified. Prior to releasing the document in response to FOIA, it underwent routine review, and the FBI determined that it should be classified as secret. We knew there were lots of those, so the existence of one is of no significance.
For some reason, Patrick Kennedy didn't want that one classified, so he talked to someone at the FBI. (I don't think this happened while Hillary was still Secretary of State, which I'm sure will strike many Republicans as insignificant.) The FBI said no. It's secret.
Now comes the quid pro quo part. If Kennedy at that point offered a deal, that would be a major league no-no. However, that part of the conversation is disputed. The FBI version of events is that it was their former official who made the suggestion.
So, maybe it's nothing after all. I hope so. I hate Trump, and if this is anything like what Republicans want it to be, it's even bigger than copping a feel on a few dozen young women. I suppose we'll just have to stay tuned.
