Clever headline writers

Headline notwithstanding, here's my thoughts on this:

SAN FRANCISCO -- Rosie O'Donnell married her longtime girlfriend Thursday, taking what she called a proud stand for gay civil rights in the city where more than 3,300 other same-sex couples have tied the knot since Feb. 12.

Rosie, are you marrying her to take "a proud stand for gay civil rights," or are you marrying her because you love her and want to spend the rest of your life with her?

Since it's her "longtime girlfriend", I would assume it's a little of both.

Damn that's funny...the second time in 15 mins that I laughed so hard I thought I'd vomit ! ...Two thumbs up rosie!

Crap, the link doesn't work now. Or rather, it works but gets you nowhere.

This same headline (from another newspaper) appeared on Jay Leno's "Headlines" last night.

Leno offered little advance comment on the headline. There were a few seconds of silence while the audience read the headline, then there was laughter and applause. Leno remarked something like, "That's what a honeymoon is for."

Poor Rosie. Must be terrible to be in such a love-hate relationship. On the one hand, she hates Bush....

Last night on Jay Leno he did his weekly "headlines" gag. One of the headlines read "Rosie Marries Long Time Lover, Slams Bush". ;)

edit: damn, looks like Brown beat me to it.

Good call, Shanek. I doubt she meant what she said. I would have expected her to be more of a cunning linguist.

:p Oh, your bad.

Isnt Rosie a New Yorker???? Whats she doing getting married in Frisco? Shes just another carpetbagger sticking her nose in Cali politics. :p

Although I don't have any problem with gays getting married, Rosie's marriage somehow cheapens mine.

:D

Hey isnt this marraige stuff akin to the civil rights movemnt of the 60s??

Dammit! Where the hell are the water cannons when Rosie's walking out of town hall!

Or police dogs! Though it would probably take a pack of german shepherds to take her down.

You misspelled "munch".

(This is why I don't usually stick my head in PCE&H. I just get myself in trouble.)
