Today the Illinois Senate voted 34-21 to legalize gay marriage. It is expected to easily pass the House, and the Governor has said he'd sign it.

So it looks like in the next few days Illinois will become the latest state to legalize gay marriage.

Now, about that weed problem...

So it looks like in the next few days Illinois will become the latest state to legalize gay marriage.

Well it's been a very long "few days" but the Illinois House just passed a gay marriage bill.

It's supposedly being rushed to the state Senate for a vote, and could possibly be signed by the Governor as early as tonight.

Don't worry, the GOP will come up with a plan... Probably just create a law that demands that the State come up with the retirement pension for every for the next 75 years up front like they did for the USPS. That'll work.

well considering that the Democrats have the house the senate and the Governorship, I'm not certain that is going to work.

Plus Boss Madigan is making WAY too much bank reducing taxes for his law firm's clients.

Personally I'm thinking the best move in the US is to sack the current batch of Politicians and try again with a far better system.

If pensions had been required to be fully funded like the USPS one is we wouldn't be in this mess. $100 billion in unfunded liabilities, and that's just at the state level. Double that if you include county and municipal unfunded pension liabilities.

So after having said he'd sign it "as soon as it hits his desk" Gov. Quinn is waiting until later in the month so he can make a political dog and pony show out of it.

The governor said the exact timing depends on when various advocates will be able to get together, saying those who fought so hard for the measure deserve to be there when he puts pen to paper.

"We're going to make an arrangement so lots and lots of people can come to the ceremony," Quinn said. "I think it's important to have an opportunity for the people who worked so hard in the community to pass marriage equality to have an opportunity to be there at the bill signing. This is what democracy is all about, people banning together for a cause they believe in, passing a law that makes our state a better place."

Now it doesn't make a real difference since the law doesn't take effect until next June (I have no idea why it's not immediate, but whatever), but I'd like to see politicians not be so obviously self-centered and pandering every now and then and just do the right thing even if the spotlight isn't as bright at the moment.
