I got a feeling that lot of his fellow Air Force Retirees are not returning his calls....

God, the People's Tribunals in "The Dark Knight Rises" with THe Scarecrow as chief justice were sane compared to this insanity.
Notice how any phony judicial proceeding with the term's "People" or "Citizen" in it (and they seem to be, for this purpose interchangable) turns out to be a publicity stunt by the crazies?

Heard coverage of this on coast to coast during the event and for months leading up to it. All the organizers were very happy with how things went. Apparently it was set up just like a congressional hearing. Lots of participation from South America and around the world. Sounded like it went off without a hitch.

And without offering a shred of hard evidence for their claims.

That's a lot of money they want to spend for their belief. Pretty harmless though.

I respect that more than some other, not named here, woo believers, who don't seem to want to actually spend money on their convictions.
You make a good point, but I always wince when I see what Edgar Mitchell has gotten himself into. IIRC he already held some odd ideas before joining NASA, but he did the job and he did it right, and frankly it would only be fair to say his tangents after Apollo aren't really any more irrational than some of the other astronauts religious pursuits.

Indeed, Mitchell had an interest in the paranormal before joining NASA, and it continues. But as you say, he was able to keep his personal interests separate from the job he agreed to do for NASA.

I had the opportunity to correspond with him several years ago and our conversation included his beliefs in extraterrestrial visitation. At the time he still believed he had a contact in the Pentagon who "confirmed" that access was being restricted to secret UFO files. And at the time he graciously acknowledged that since he was unwilling to reveal that source's name, he couldn't really ask people to believe in it. After we stopped conversing, he identified his source, who then clarified that Mitchell had misunderstood him and that he had not run into any roadblocks but had simply not looked very hard. I think it was an innocent misunderstanding, but I also think that Mitchell is predisposed to believe that information is being hidden -- although he can provide no proof.

I am asking here in case someone knows how to find background information about Lt. Col. (ret.) Richard French. Last year he was talking about the two UFO crashes at Roswell:

Now he describes an encounter with two UFOs that were underwater and the beings working on them...

Is there any evidence that:
- Richard French worked for project Blue Book in 1952?
- He "was known to debunk UFO stories"?
- This person is who he says he is?

Damn, I wish I had a link to a clip from "Earth Vs The Flying Saucers" in honor of the late, great Ray Harryhausen.
