Christopher Hitchens

Sadly, things don't look good for Hitchens :(

Q: How are you?
A: I am dying.

Q: How do you feel?
A: There are bad days, and then there are worse days.

I have been trying to watch the AC360 interview for the last two hours on several YT channels and CNN and it WILL NOT LOAD... WTF!?

I can't seem to find the video.

I think Rrose Selavy is refering to the video I linked a few posts back, #83. The interviewer is Jeffrey Goldberg.

Yes , I was referring to Goldberg. This interview is the first I've seen/heard of him.

Anderson Cooper did a much better job.

Not to seem heartless, but given the kind of lifestyle he led, it's hard to say he didn't bring this upon himself.

I liked how he conceded this much in the Anderson interview. 'Keep it down on the fags and cocktails, if you can'. A rare moment of humility.

I hope his children don't resent him for this destructive lifestyle.

The important thing is whether or not it was accurate.

Probably not all that much if there is a genetic disposition. Maybe it didn't help his chances any, but the criticism certainly sounds like the common human trait where we try to find a reason to differentiate ourselves from someone who dies or otherwise suffers significant adversity. Things like:

"I don't smoke like he did"

"I'm not nearly as old"

"He ate like a fool"

"I'm not Norwegian"

"He doesn't love Jesus"

and so on. A curious trait, but we all do it to some extent.

It does not take much searching on the Internet to find really some really vile commentary about Hitchens, and expressions of sadistic joy about what is happening to him.

I take this opportunity to withdraw certain remarks that I made about Hitchens, and in particular, that he is really two people: A "Good Hitchens" and an "Evil Hitchens." (The "Evil Hitchens" is characterized by getting caught up in his own cleverness, thereby rendering his remarks nearly indecipherable, and by the display of attitude that his own excrement doesn't stink. I have opined that it would be of great help if the Evil Hitchens would grow a goatee so that he could be more easily recognized [comparable to the "Evil Spock," the "Evil Cartman" and the "Evil Bender," for those who are a little slow to realize the joke]. Hitchens himself recently reported, however, that he is no longer capable of growing a goatee.)

There is now no distinction between the personas. There is only "Hitchens." If there is to be an "Evil Hitchens," it will likely be as Hitchens himself has said: a man whose illness has invaded his brain and has taken away his reason.

You are apparently unfamiliar with CNN's general level of journalism, particularly their obnoxious obsession with what people are saying on Twitter.

Sadly, CNN ain't the only news source that seems obsessed with Twitter.

Wait, seriously?
A dead guy, yes, I agree. But you really think that a Christian who truly believes that a dying man is close to going to Hell if they don't embrace Christ shouldn't say anything? How is that even remotely reasonable?
So if you were dying, you would appreciate people of all the other faiths believing you to be headed for some horrific fate to take the opportunity to try to convert you:boggled:?

Oh the irony. Reason? Convininced that someone is going to an imaginary place? You don't know what reasonable is.
Would it also be equally ok with you for an atheist to try to convince a terminally ill Christian that they are wasting their final days praying etc.
