Hello! I'm a very long-time lurker and I've finally decided to register and hone in on threads, etc. ;)

I used to be someone who admired Sylvia Browne...but then I discovered RSL's website and it really helped me analyze what I was reading and hearing from Browne. For that, I thank him.

That being said, since I am new I can't post links but I did find this blurb in the Sonora, CA paper, the Union-Democrat...June 23, 2009 edition. Does anyoe know if this is Browne's son and, if so, what he was arrested for?

MONDAY

12:25 a.m., Tulloch Reservoir area — Christopher Michael DuFresne, 43, of an unknown address, arrested on O’Byrnes Ferry Road south of the county line.

The full name and age and location seems to match.

Anyway, I just wanted to say hello. And a big thank you to RSL. Your website really does a lot of good.

Welcome Lady Mockington.
You will find other Ex-Browne's here as well.
They all have me on ignore. LOL!
It would do Sylvia's son some good to sit in jail awhile.
But if it is him then he should of spent the $250 and called himself to get a heads up.
Once again welcome.

That is Browne's son's full name. It looks like he was cited under "suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs."

Lady Mockington:

Thanks for your kind wrds regarding my web site. I am pleased to learn that it was helpful to you.

Thanks also for the info on Christopher Dufresne's arrest. I was unaware of this.

Best regards,

Robert Lancaster

Just curious, who/what is an "other Ex-Browne?"

You would think that either one of them would have seen that coming. If Sylvia was my mother I would hit her with a full case of bottles.

This bad behavior says nothing about Dufresne's supernatural claims.* However, it speaks volumes if he's used his ill gotten gains to get himself out of a legal scrape that would land many less well heeled individuals in jail.

*I accept Dufresne's claim that he has the same psychic abilities as his mother.

Just curious, who/what is an "other Ex-Browne?"

You know other believers and followers of Sylvia Browne that no longer follow or believe in her.

Also exbrownes seem to still believe in everything psychic and continue to search for the next Sylvia Browne to surrender their will to.

That is just my opinion though and I have been wrong many times before about many things.

Oh, well that would apply to me then, and I don't have you on ignore. I don't always agree with you, as for example when you claim that believers are responsible for being deceived and therefore aren't worth attempting to help, but you seem like a nice enough guy otherwise. In fact, I don't have anyone at all on ignore. I'm interested in what most everyone has to say, even if I don't agree with it (with the possible exception of the trolls).

I don't think there are too many other ex-Browne followers who post on here regularly, except me, are there? Most of the others seem to have moved on for the most part. Some of them retained most of their spiritual beliefs, some of them, like AgnosticExGnostic, seemed to abandon many of them in favor of an agnostic stance. But mostly I'm the only one who's around here regularly, as far as I know.

I will say this: I most certainly do NOT believe in everything psychic and I would rather be locked in a room and forced to listen to old Sylvia Browne trance tapes for 2 weeks than find another Sylvia Browne type to follow. EVER. I would be more inclined to "follow" someone like Richard Dawkins, whose work I really enjoy, if I had to follow anyone, but really not even him, as the idea of following anyone at all no longer holds much appeal to me.

I no longer believe in much that is psychic at all. Well, maybe none of it. I don't know. Even my old favorite, Edgar Cayce, hasn't stood up to close scrutiny. Of course, I wouldn't be presumptious enough to say it's impossible. How could I know that? But one thing I know for sure is that I no longer want to play the fool to anyone, and that makes me especially wary of ANY psychic claim whatsoever. That is a result of my own experiences in past years with disillusionment and may be unique to me. What's left?

I had a spiritual experience in my 20s that I still haven't quite let go of, but that's a subject for another time, I suppose. And since being diagnosed with a seizure disorder, I guess I've concluded that I can't entirely be sure of that either, in light of what I understand now about seizure disorders and the type of visionary experiences that are common to them. :(

That's sad to me, but as I've said here many times before, I'm interested in truth. I don't care where it leads me.

You did specifically mention that these "Ex-Browne's" could be found on this forum, which is why I responded. I hoped this might shed some light and even cheer you up to know that things are not as bleak as they seem when it comes to all ex-Browne followers. If you meant some other "Ex-Browne," disregard. :)

And note that had I addressed this issue 2 years ago, my response would have been quite different I'm sure. It's been a long difficult process for me.

Other than specific to this forum, though, I wholeheartedly agree that many people will discard a belief in Sylvia Browne only to turn to someone just like her, or perhaps they believe in Van Praagh and Edward too and so finding out the truth about Browne doesn't change their belief in the others. I agree with you that is something that happens quite commonly. I hope RSL will still do the other Stop sites for exactly that reason.

/apologies to the OP for the derail!/

Hello Brattus! I'd never put you or anyone else on ignore unless you were really, really mean to me. :) Just kidding. I'm Irish and we like to argue. As far as believing in other psychics, I'm pretty agnostic on that front. I believe we all get hunches or feelings but I doubt if anyone can sit down and predict the future. I mean, where were all of them on 9/11, etc. If I could predict the future, I'd sure as hell play certain lottery numbers and win over and over again. The only "woo" thing I believe in are ghosts--99.9% of hauntings are explainable but I've seen a ghost. And I was sober (that time). Beyond that, I'm pretty skeptical....SB made sure of that--and I think that's a good thing (to quote Martha Stewart).

Tell us the story! I don't believe in ghosts, but I know several very smart, rational people who have told me that they've seen and believe in ghosts. I always like hearing the stories.

Great user name, BTW.

Well as I stated in my last post I could be wrong and I now stand corrected.
I'm glad you don't have me on ignore. You seem very nice as well.

I never meant to say that the fools that follow Sylvia Browne and her like do not deserve help.
I stated that to place all the blame on the fraud and to cradle the fool does the fool no good.
If it wasn't Sylvia Browne then they would give their money to someone else.
I also stated that those fools are weak and lazy in the sense that they are looking for someone else to make the decisions in their life for them.

When I say fools I am NOT referring to the small percentage of people with missing loved ones who are leaving no stone unturned.
If I had a child taken from me I can not say I wouldn't seek out Sylvia Browne and her like.

I know I can't write as well as Mr. Lancaster and I come off as some kind of Sylvia loving jerk. But other than the jerk thing nothing could be further from the truth.

I will state here so there is no misunderstanding that I have the up most respect for Mr. Lancaster.
I found his stopKaz site to be internet debunking perfection.

I just feel that his skeptical writing gifts are wasted on Sylvia Browne.
Because for every one person who reads his site or finally gets their worthless $700 phone call and see Sylvia for what she is there are five more to take their place.

But luckily for those he has helped Mr. Lancaster could care less what I think.
My apologies to the OP for the derail too.
