Chris Cairns

Him winning a case for defamation relied on his apparently false testimony that he had never cheated. This current case is actually for perjury as a result of what he said during that previous trial, and when current NZ captain testifies that Cairns asked him to rig a match/ some matches, then Cairns' goose will be cooked. Like other match fixers before him, he will spend some time at her majesty's pleasure.

Looks guilty as sin, but if his majesty beckons I wonder if turning up for the trial was a great idea.

He'd be extraditable from pretty much everywhere he could go easily - perjury rates fairly high on the list of things courts hate.

The funniest part is, if he'd shut up when he was accused of cheating, he wouldn't be guilty of a criminal offence.

Pride goeth before a fall.

McCullum, Ponting and Fleming aren't going to lose it on cross examination.

Good luck looking them in the eye Chris

This looks like a train wreck for the Cairns family. Father Lance lost a daughter in a train accident, and now a son to the stain of dishonesty and fraud. A very human story. There but by the grace of god go we all.

I hope it doesn't happen but I can see Cairns dying in a freak accident some time in the near future.

A la that plane crash

This is pretty sad. I was at the 'G the day his dad hit a one handed six off Dennis Lillee.

(Things you don't forget)

Left hand swipe into the stands, wasn't it? I was watching on TV and envy that you were there.

In some ways it added to Cairns' legend that his most legendary performances weren't at home.

His son is in the crap, though. Tough day today with the NZ skipper testifying against you.

Judge's summing up says he gets off - the judge told the jury to disregard Lou Vincent, which leaves one ambiguous conversation with McCullum.

I reckon there's zero chance of a conviction.

Kind of surprising, given the rather onesided headlines from the trial on Cricinfo.

Then again, the judge is set to continue his jury instructions on monday, so who knows where it'll go.

In Vincent's case, he is a proven liar, so it's not a character assessment so much as plain history.

Interesting counterpoint that the defendant's history is often hidden from juries.

So his word against McCullums

I have meet both and Cairns is a complete ********. Wouldn't trust him with opening an envelope without trying to sell the contents

He will get off though
