[Since the Interview with Aljazeera was about the current US-elections, I will put it in here]

Chomsky made some surprising statements that sounded quite strange, among those:

"As far as the elections are concerned, I forget the exact figure but by about three to one people wish that the elections were about issues, not about marginal character qualities and so on. So I'm right in the mainstream.*snip*"

"In this election the Democratic candidates all have [health] programmes that are not what the public are asking for but are approaching it and could even turn into it, so what happened between 2004 and 2008? It's not a shift in public opinion - that's the same as before, what happened is a big segment of US corporate power is being so harmed by the healthcare system that they want it changed, namely the manufacturing industry. *snip*"

"*snip* Bolivia, the poorest county in South America. They had a democratic election a couple of years ago that you can't even dream about in the US. It's kind of interesting it's not discussed; it's a real democratic election. *snip*"

Video of Interview:

Your thread title has nothing to do with what you quoted.

I was wondering about that myself. Here's a hint for posters: If you're counting on YouTube to make your point for you, then you have already conceded your point. This is a forum, not an "America's Funniest Videos" show. I'm not going to click your link unless you give me (in your own words) a good reason to do so. Making referential comments to the video which I haven't watched is not good enough.

I used the exact header from Aljazeera: The Articles Title is "Chomsky: US public irrelevant" - and giving Chomsky's statements in this interview, it's correct despite some improvements he pointed out.

And concerning the Video: They're also from the Aljazeera Article - so go on and write them a letter. If I want to see Americas Funniest Videos, I watch the FoxNews-Webstream...

Oh look, Oliver ran away from his "Caucasian stance" thread to post another article he found that fits his world view.

If you put your ear to the ground and listen really hard you might just begin to make out the sound of me not caring what Chomsky thinks about anything.

And this very post of yours in this particular thread actually is my evidence that you just lied about "not-caring what Chomsky thinks about anything".

Which says a lot about your stance on democracy and elections ... But what the heck...

Yes, you found me out. I really am a monstrous Fascist who undermines democracy and destroys elections wherever I go. Damn you and your excellent powers of deduction.

We certainly know what your stance is Oliver. You never voted in your life, correct?

That's correct - I don't see a threat to democracy over here. How do I know that? - Politicians and their domestic issues are the most boring things you could imagine.

That didn't play very well given the fact that being incapable to address valid points of Chomsky while - and how surprising for an average conservative mind - rather trying to play the character-assassination game.:rolleyes:

Complacency is probably one of the biggest threats to democracy. That's when ideologues and fundamentalists can seek in without you noticing it.

While I remember several occasions when some people were upset about me being "off-topic", I follow German Politics and also notice any threat to democracy and it's opposing resistance as well. It rarely are life and death-issues anyway.

So what exactly is your criticism of Chomsky again?
