A baby's neck has been broken by a chiropractor in an incident doctors say shows the profession should stop treating children.

The injury was reported to the Chiropractic Board of Australia, which closed the case without reporting it to the public and allowed the chiropractor to keep practising as long as they undertook education with an ''expert in the field of paediatric chiropractic".

The Sun-Herald has also seen evidence that chiropractors have been entering Sydney hospitals, including neo-natal intensive care wards and surgical wards, to treat patients without the required permission.

NSW Health has warned that any chiropractor working in a hospital without permission could put patients at risk, while the Australian Medical Association NSW says the behaviour is "outrageous".

Mods, I couldn't decide what was the correct forum for this, please move if it isn't

Indeed, and lucky to be "governed" by an organisation so opposed to proper oversight.

This story filled me with sadness - I have a four month old grandson, and the idea that anyone could ask a quack to treat such a fragile creature is mind boggling.

The Australian Skeptics are usually all over events like this, so if they haven't released a press release, I'll ask them why.

And whenever I see something posted like this, I usually see chiro-fans posting, "But *real* doctors sometimes hurt patients, too!" Erk.

"The Sun-Herald has seen Facebook conversations in which chiropractors discuss methods of sneaking into hospitals". The way this reads suggests these people are wandering in and arbitrarily imposing this treatment on babies in hospitals. Or are they being invited in by chiro-friendly parents?

If the former then doesn't it constitute assault?

You really think there's a question whether it's option two or option one? You don't pick unclear language from "journalists" ahead (by miles) over Monty Python-esque roving chiropractors?

I would like to perform a Chiropractic adjustment on the guy that did this.

With chiropractors sneaking into hospitals making adjustments without anyone knowing, medical staff could very well be blamed for what might go wrong.
