Childhood Memories

Yeah, right..so did your parents start lying to you when you were 4 about what you did when you were 3, and lying to you when you were 6 about what you did when you were 5, complete with doctored photos etc?

I wasn't talking about waiting until my parents were 80 for verification.
This thread, minus the above quote, is amazing to me. If this is a representative sample (not likely) I way beyond 3-sigma when it comes to earliest memories.

Regarding the above quote, it is the only pissant reply in an otherwise nice thread. No wonder, crimresearch, there are (at least) two threads on the subject of your jerkdom. Bah.

In other words, out of all the honest responses to your question, you chose mine to derail your own thread into personal attacks.

Why exactly is that?

In this thread Winter expresses some memories from the age of 2-3. I am just blown away. My earliest memories are from 5th grade, which means I was about 10 years old. And these are vague and I seriously doubt have much to do with reality (whatever THAT means).

Do people have memories from the age of 2-3? Are they accurate (whatever that means, too)? Given that we know memories are quite fluid, what should we make of people (like Winter) who report events from decades ago as if they are actual events?

To be more personal, I have heard others report of childhood memories. Am I weird because I cannot remember anything before my first decade?

BTW, I was not sure this was the right forum to post this in. If it should be elsewhere, would a Mod please move it? Thanks.

My earliest memories are of making a face with my stacking rings, bathing with them, being in the hospital while my grandfather was dying, and seeing the boogeyman.

I can't pin down the first two, but I was about two when he died and I'm told I was about that same age when I saw the boogeyman. Which is when my mother told me that the boogeyman was Sweeney Todd, which didn't help so she told me that he wasn't real, which did help (kinda).

When I was about five I asked her why Sweeney Todd was the boogeyman and got an answer.

I have some very distinct memories from the age of three one like my first Easter dress and fishing in a puddle and such.

When I was about three years old, I was very sick. I remember three things about this experience: (1) our doctor made a house call (we didn't live in a big city, and some doctors made house calls in those days); (2) I was permitted to lie on my back on the living room sofa, which was a new experience fo me (I was flat on my back, with my right side up against the back of the sofa); and (3) I experienced my first optical illusion. The ceiling to my house had patterns of little holes in it, and as I stared at the ceiling, I perceived that the holes seemed to float off of the ceiling and hover in front of my face. Weird!

At TAM2 and TAM3, Jerry Andrus had demonstrations showing this effect.

I have memories dating back to age 3-4. I can remember my old house, we moved when i was 4 but I still have a bunch of memories of the old neighborhood. I recall a batman batcycle I used to ride around the house. And some XMAS moments, my dads fashionalbe white belt that he used to spank us with. Well at least it was fashionable back in the 70's. I remeber the neighborhood kids ect...
