Chicago-Area Skepticamp: Skepchicamp!!!

I just wanted to let you all know there is another Skepticamp in the works - in Chicago! Elyse Anders (of Skepchick fame) and I are heading up the effort, and we just had our first planning meeting this past Saturday.

We've set the date: Saturday, March 6th, 2010.

Just as Atlanta set the standard for first-time events last year, Chicago may steal that crown in March.

Adding to the excitement is a notable innovation spearheaded by its organizers - an innovation that the flexibility of an open conference format places within our reach: Skepchicamp will feature an emphasis on women and skepticism, but otherwise be a normal SkeptiCamp event.

While there has been at least one "Rational Feminism" conference, it occurred more than 12 years ago and is lost to all but long-time veterans. That's a formula for an academic niche, but it's a miserable failure for a movement that seeks to grow and diversify. Skepchicks and SkeptiCamp to the rescue!

I love TAM and expect to attend next July, but if you wish to glimpse the participatory future of the movement, you're likely to find it in Chicago and other cities hosting SkeptiCamps in the coming year.

Of course, if there's no SkeptiCamp being organized in your area, consider organizing one yourself.
