Cheney Criticizes Dean Over Remarks

WASHINGTON - Howard Dean is "over the top," Vice President Dick Cheney says, calling the Democrats' chairman "not the kind of individual you want to have representing your political party."

"I've never been able to understand his appeal. Maybe his mother loved him, but I've never met anybody who does. He's never won anything, as best I can tell," Cheney said in an interview to be aired Monday on Fox News Channel's "Hannity & Colmes."

Dean was elected governor of Vermont five times between 1992 and 2000. He ran for the 2004 Democratic presidential nomination but closed down his campaign after poor showings in early primaries.
"Never won anything"? This isn't Cheney's first such gaffe. Dumb, real dumb.

Dumb, eh? Crazy like a fox, I say. He knows damn well that Dean was elected governor many times over.

Cheney has uttered an unprecedented string of outright lies over the last 4 years, and they go largely unremarked or unpunished in any way. What endures is his desired effect of launching favorable memes, since his intended audience is completely impervious to reality (e.g., WMD in Iraq). Why wouldn't he do it again in this case?

Hmmmm..... yeah, ok. I'll buy that. Makes more sense than he just didn't know the background of a one time potential contender for the presidency. It's insulting but the fault doesn't lie with you hgc.

Didn't veep Cheney also deny ever meeting John Edwards in the debates? John was clearly taken aback from the comment and IIRC he didn't respond to the comment, err lie.

I guess bald-face lying is a good way to put your opponents off guard.

Cheney and Rove are the evil masterminds of the current GOP administration.

Why can't they just be garden variety cynical politicians who think the ends justify the means? How do you define evil?

That's funny. One of my definitions of evil is "thinking that the ends justifies the means".

So if I steal to feed my children am I evil?

Okay, then. We add "bald with a sneer" to it, and the next thing we do is start goose-stepping our way down Pennsylvania Avenue.

It's justified evil, not good. If there was another way to feed your children and you didn't take it, and stole instead, then it's not even justified.

I wasn't commenting on Cheney and Co., I was expressing an opinion on the definition of evil. I didn't suggest Cheney was evil, or that he thinks the ends justifies the means.

I don't know him well enough to know whether he's evil. I suspect he's just bitchy.

I question your definition. To me there is that which is wrong, that which is justified but otherwise wrong and then there is evil (perhaps a bit oversimplified). That is just my opinion though and I don't see any point in a symantecal debate. I think I understand what you are saying and I will agree with your sentiment.

I don't simply see ends justifying the means as *evil.

Evil is a term describing that which is regarded as morally bad, intrinsically corrupt, wantonly destructive, inhumane, selfish, or wicked.
We will just have to disagree with the definition of the word.

If such a transparent and elementery ploy could shake up a potential VP then I think we are better off without him.

Heh. What's this board's policy on dirty jokes if they don't actually contain any dirty words? I've got a good one starring Cheney and Bush.
