Cheerleader kicked off team for kissing boyfriend

Really? Every person from the entire state of Texas is not the same? Who'd a thunk it?

However, I'm pretty sure all Texans are homophobes. It's required by their state constitution I think.

So no possibility that the district is still wrong but sticking to their guns anyway? But I guess something like that would never happen in Texas.

ETA: http://www.kztv10.com/news/alice-isd-chooses-not-to-reverse-cheerleader-s-suspension-from-team/

The kid is sticking to his story.

I believe professionals over HS students. I know it's a radical idea, but whatever.

They've made it clear it wasn't about the "kiss", but it obviously has something to do with what was on the tape, which they've admitted is too sensitive to reveal to the public.

That's all there is too it.

You think they would admit it was about the kiss?

And it's not obvious at all what it is about.

Do you have a link to where they admit it's too sensitive to reveal? It's not in the story I found.

Absent all of the facts, as is usually the case, you're really left with two options: either the HS student is lying and there was more going on than just kissing or the principal and the school district are all in cahoots and lying.

In order to begin believing the HS student, you have to believe that one would sneak off to a secluded area with their partner and not do more than just "kiss". Come on. I mentioned this before, but my buddy's father is a principal and they had to call a parent teacher conference because they found 6th grade girls sneaking off to a broom closet giving blowjobs as part of a contest. That's at a relatively small Catholic school near where I live, by no means a liberal "big city school". When kids get alone they get promiscuous. That was the way it was when I was in school, but I say with relative confidence it continues today but at a slightly younger age.

Everything I know about HS from way back when to the current day suggests to me that's it HIGHLY probable this kid was actually not just "kissing".
And everything I know about HS kids suggests to me they are less than forthcoming. And I say less than forthcoming because I don't think he's lying, I just think he's downplaying what happened. Maybe they didn't have sex, but it was probably more than just a "kiss" like he's trying to play it off as. It just doesn't make sense in the setting that's been described.

The student and parents are clearly aware that the student was not removed from the squad for kissing another student at school. While the student is free to discuss certain aspects of his discipline in the media, the District cannot discuss the specifics of this incident and must respect the privacy rights of the students involved in this matter."

I suppose that leaves it open to an entirely different reason for him being suspended, but when you combine it with the previous statements that say the suspension is a result of the principal reviewing the surveillance footage and suspending the student, it's pretty clear that there's a "privacy issue" here. That simply doesn't happen if the student was suspended for damaging school property or skipping out. The wording also suggests they're protecting the privacy of both students.

I may have mislead you by saying "sensitive issue", I thought that's what I read the other day. Apparently it's a "privacy issue" the school can't share with the public. It's not exactly the same, but it's not really that different, nor does it change anything.

Hey - if you want to live in a religious oligarchy, you have to expect things like this. I am surprised it made it to the papers...

I had sex on the floor in front of the office after hours, there was still staff in the room. That doesn't mean that it was condoned. Had it been caught on tape it wouldn't matter what the sex of my partner was, I would have been suspended and possibly expelled.
The kid's claiming "first base", if he was stretching a single into a double or more likely past second and rounding third the suspension will most likely stand. I don't care what state it is, the school turning a blind eye to students fooling around on campus isn't going to be tolerated. Making this a gay issue is BS. The kid's playing people for fools.

I am sorry, but I don't understand your baseball themed euphemisms.

Was the kid *******, ****** **** or just kissing?

(BTW - I typed the little asterices in myself. Don't want to fall foul of the rules!)

lol, I forget the bases. I think 1st is kissing, 2nd is groping, feeling up , 3rd is manual penetration or oral sex and home is full on "bow chika bow wow" intercourse. :)

Ah!

I interpreted what you said as (in order) "home" and "3rd" then.

Just so we are all on the same page....

;)

Four balls and a walk is... exactly what it says on the tin.

Kissing or 1st base is pretty much allowed anywhere I've ever been. I suspect there are probably some private schools that may be a little more strict, but for the most part it's tolerated.

Second base was grounds for a suspension, even when I was a kid. Get caught groping a girls breasts in front of a teacher and you were doing a lot of talking to prevent an unsolicited vacation.

If we allow for the fact that HS kids tend to have short memories caused by raging hormones it's quite likely this kid was kissing and a bit more.

I'm not seeing the discrimination here. Just a couple horny teenagers that got caught and now have to pay the consequences.

you seem to have decided there was more than a kiss.
that's quite the assumption.

It's also just as likely it was just a kiss. I'm not denying that kids don't go farther, but kisses are more common than blowjobs.

I would hope that the other cheerleaders on the team would show their support by kissing their boyfriends in school too.

lol, not me the principal and the school board decided it.

I just said I believe professional educators before I believe HS students. That's not an assumption, it's applied critical thinking. :D

And if several professional educators didn't say otherwise I'd probably agree with you.

If you want to play the odds it's the odds of a HS student lying vs. the odds of several school officials lying. That's a no brainer for a betting man.

I should point out that the average school board has more than two members, plus the principal that's at least three. It's now becoming a conspiracy!

I still think you are assuming too much :p . The fact that the school emphasised the higher standards for cheerleaders implies to me that it was something that would have been on the line as passable for normal students. In the end we are left at an impasse where the district says it wasn't for kissing, the kid and his family know the real reason, but they can't say it because of privacy.

Applying critical thnking, sure  .

Um no, you're confusing the suspension and getting kicked off the team. You could get kicked off a sports team for something that a student might not get suspended for.
It was the same in my day, and I mentioned the time they cracked down on us about PDA's at games. Something about being representatives for the school, but I think it had to do with all of the parents at the game.

I think your definition of "impasse" and mine are totally different. I'm quite certain from the districts response and the suspension and of course being kicked off the team that it was more than a "kiss" that got this kid in trouble. That's kinda like saying "Well we're at an impasse with this Amanda Knox thing, I guess we'll never really know if she's guilty or not" :D

Applying critical thnking, sure  .

True, it doesn't take a scientific study and a lot of logical reasoning to show HS students, gay or straight, are a bunch of lying horn bags. :p

Which is what it takes to come up with a string of "logic" such as that. :p

What string? You either have a bunch of lying school board members or a lying HS student. No string sling, it's called cutting away the fat. ;)

eta: it's a pretty impressive feat for a HS student though, for a few days he managed to dupe enough people to get this on the late night circuit, Conan did a bit on this the other night. Well played.

Appeals to Authority and Excluded Middles are poor logic.

It's a much better bet that the answers lie within the evidence that we're told exists, rather than within the roles of those involved, or their numbers.

Only if they are fallacious. In this case they clearly aren't.

lol, it's a much much better bet that the "answers" lie within the answers. At least this kids answers.

I'm afraid your own logic fails you, you've failed to identify the lie in this story. Better luck next time :D
