No, but my high school had loads of Mormons in it. Also a whole lot of German Baptists in my area. They are sort of similar to the Amish in that they avoid technology and stick to old fashioned ways. They work the farm fields in the area and tourists love to stop their cars to take pictures of them on old fashioned tractors.

I am surprised that a cheerleader was a boy.
Does it matter? Can anyone tell me a good reason for this rule? Other than that Americans seem to have an allergic reaction to anything that can be considered sexual?

In my high school, it was 1986 when rules went from "clothes must remain on" to "no public displays of affection".

I had sex on the floor in front of the office after hours, there was still staff in the room. That doesn't mean that it was condoned. Had it been caught on tape it wouldn't matter what the sex of my partner was, I would have been suspended and possibly expelled.
The kid's claiming "first base", if he was stretching a single into a double or more likely past second and rounding third the suspension will most likely stand. I don't care what state it is, the school turning a blind eye to students fooling around on campus isn't going to be tolerated. Making this a gay issue is BS. The kid's playing people for fools.

I graduated high school in 1984, there were no rules wrt kissing that I know of. Making out in the hallway during school was extremely common.

The district representative said they don't suspend students for "kissing". These kids were suspended so there is evidence they were doing more than kissing. Not only that but I was in high school myself and I don't think it's exaggerating to say no one ever snuck off to be alone and only "kissed". (possibly in grade 9 some of the less experienced kids may have, but 20 years ago we were knockin boots. If anything kids are getting worse, not better)
I know I went to a Catholic HS and it was probably a little more strict, but certainly every school had their "out of bounds" areas that people, especially couples weren't to be in for obvious reasons. Certain rooms, certain hallways at certain times were forbidden because there was no supervision. The mere fact that there was a camera suggests this. Getting caught in these areas screwing around was bound to get you in trouble, your sexual orientation was irrelevant. If they were just "kissing" then there's no reason for them to be tucked away, out of sight, even if they're gay. Saying it's a gay thing before you have any proof of discrimination, other than the word of the "perpetrator" seems a little naive no? I really doubt a HS, even in Texas, allows straight kids to hide in an auditorium and make out, but suspends gay kids doing the same thing.
No one? I thought that there might have been some simple common sense reason that eluded me. Apparently not.
And even if they were jerking each-other off or trading blowjobs i still don't see any reason for the school to discipline them. Although when i think about it, maybe they should be 'disciplined' after all! They should just leave it up to me...

The statement was of policy not about the event. Schools do not always follow their own policies.
Basically staunch conservatives and perhaps 2 or 3 bad boys flipping skirts. You weren't deprived of much though. Perhaps it better to be exposed to sex, drinking, and drugs at a later age than 15.
What is wrong with two guys kissing? In my opinion nothing unless it secretly turns you on and you say you don't like it but you really do. (NSFW)

Indeed. The quote from the representative pretty much read "Well if all they were doing was kissing we don't typically suspend kids for that, so we're going to look at the tape". That doesn't necessarily mean however that this particular principal doesn't have a zero tolerance for PDA's on school property.
I checked out a few links to see if the district made a decision this week yet, but couldn't find anything. What I could find though was a lot of "Texas, go figure
" Seems like a lot of reverse discrimination on Texans if you ask me. At least where I'm from that type of behaviour is a suspension whether you're gay or straight. If it's only being enforced on gay kids then it's discrimination, but you really need to prove that IMO before you start pointing fingers at school management.Vorticity

To an extent, sure, but there are small towns up and down the west coast that most assuredly would not be confused with a small town in TX. Like day and night. (I live in one.) And I'm guessing the same is true of the east coast.

I think it might matter that my school didn't have any rules against kissing or other non-sexual displays of affection. Nonetheless I very rarely saw anyone kissing on campus.
Granted the clique I hung around with (non-math club nerds) was entirely male.

However, I'm pretty sure all Texans are homophobes. It's required by their state constitution I think.
So no possibility that the district is still wrong but sticking to their guns anyway? But I guess something like that would never happen in Texas.
