Cheerleader kicked off team for kissing boyfriend

One of the female cheerleaders that's still on the squad is pregnant. I'm thinking there's a pretty reasonable chance that this is an orientation thing.

 Why would you assume she had sex on school property?

The only reason it may be an orientation thing is because someone from the district has already said they don't suspend kids for kissing on school property; the kid alleges all he was doing was kissing his BF. If all he was doing was kissing his boyfriend and that's all he was doing, then maybe it was an orientation thing.

But, I went to high school. I know you don't sneak off to the auditorium with your girlfriend and only "kiss". We had a term, it was called "fooling around", the authorities called it "heavy petting". "Heavy petting" in the auditorium when you weren't supposed to be in the auditorium would get you suspended from school. Your sexual orientation is irrelevant.

Walking your GF to class and giving her a "kiss" wouldn't land you in any trouble, perhaps a throat clearing if a teacher saw you. Start making out and grabbing her boobs and ass, right to the principals office. Get warned more than once you're going to end up on suspension.

And the players on any team were held to a higher standard. Not so much with the school as with the team. As representatives of the school it was just expected.

So again, I don't see anything here that would necessarily apply to a gay couple that wouldn't apply to a straight couple. I have no idea what a pregnancy has to do with this? It's about screwing around on school property, which applies to everyone. So before you can call "discrimination" you really have to show that this is more than someone simply overreacting. You have to show that this is someone overreacting to this being a gay couple.

True it isn't, but that also happened. A regular feature of my high school life was trying to walk around amorous couples in the hallway as I made my way to my next class. This was in a small town (population about 20,000) in Massachusetts. I doubt teenagers have changed that much in 35 years.

So did I, I don't think things have changed either. But as I pointed out in my other post, sneaking around and getting caught "fooling around" was treated differently than "kissing in the hallway".

It was pretty much assumed if you were "off the beaten path" and kissing you were doing something else or planning on doing something else and the school put an end to that very quickly if you were caught. If you got caught on tape I'm almost certain it would land you a suspension. I don't think there were any cameras when I started school, but by the time I finished they were everywhere.

What is the school actually saying the couple was doing?

The US didn't exist during the middle ages, so now they reenact those times.

I can't believe this still happens.

Nothing, the only linked article says it's under investigation.

They just said they don't typically suspend people for kissing. That makes sense, I've never seen anyone suspended for kissing in my time. Of course if this was the 50th time they were caught and they were asked to stop making out on school property then they didn't get suspended for "kissing", they got suspended for disobeying. Likewise if they were doing more than just kissing, which I HIGHLY suspect, then they pretty much have to suspend them.

Any suspension from school pretty much ensures you're kicked off the team. You might be able to get back on, but you're off the team at least for the time of the suspension.

gee. In my "high school" (college in france) there was a distributor of condom, and a sign asking the student not to drop the used condom on the ground but in trashcan.

I am just guessing that such a school setting would bring a lot of US parents to apoplexy.
Hell, my college had a giant fish bowl with free condoms in the lobby of the health center, and that was in 1986.

"Would you like to kiss me on the veranda?"

"No, no, the lips will be fine."

My band instructor in high school had to strongly warn the students about loitering in the instrument closet during our our free periods after several instances of couples being caught heavily loitering.
As I recall there were no disciplinary actions. One couple was suspended briefly for being caught having sex in the drama classroom.

My question is, why did the school need security cameras? I thought that small-town Americans were crimeless and perfect because, you know, values, and uh, Jesus?

I remember they gave out some condoms to us during freshman orientation. Years later I had to throw mine away. Stupid expiration dates.

Gay kid gets treated unfairly by local ***hats. Rest of nation and local community come down hard on said ***hats. How exactly is this like the middle ages again?

Well, in that the local ***hats still exist. But I like your viewpoint much, much better!

Yeah, there is that. Progress is slow, but it does move in the right direction.

So he's a cheerleader, huh? Does he wear a cute skirt and all that? These stories need more revealing photos! I mean we didn't get to see them kiss and we didn't even get to see who this boy is...!

kissing is not an appropriate conduct for students at school

Really? You Americans sure are messed up i all kinds of strange and amazing ways.

I don't particularly remember ever seeing couples kiss when I was in high school.

It sometimes happen at mine, though the "affection" was mostly of the hugging and holding close (usually right in front of my locker) type.

You guys must be old. They were smacking down at my high school. That's probably because we had so many fast girls...
