Presumably he is making a list of opposition journalists because he loves their work and doesn't want to miss a single column.

After winning a vote to eliminate term limits, Hugo Chavez has decided to ramp up his Bolivarian revolution, despite a massive loss of government revenue due to falling oil prices and recent spike in inflation. This week he threatened the remaining independent media outlets in the country, ordering his deputies to create an enemies list of opposition journalists. . . .

Put this down on the list of things "not to worry about" regarding Chavez.

"He is just protecting the people of Venezuela against CIA backed Imperialist, Capitalist, Agents."

You know this is coming, along with References to Nixon's "Enemies List".

There is nothing Chavez cannot do that his Useful Idiots on the Left will not defend.

Wow, he's done just like Nixon, Clinton, and 'W'.

But that doesn't excuse it, and in Chavez' case, well, we know he's the epitomy of a testosterone-poisoned dictator.

I wasn't aware that Clinton or W had made a list of opposition journalists with the admonition that the government keep an eye on what they were writing so that the 'unproductive' ones could be set aside for those more deserving.

Link?

I'm out of the loop if I missed the referendum to eliminate term limits. Alas, neither surprises me, I saw this coming since '03... And so the steam roller continues...

Except for the "president for life" thing, the one-party state, ending freedom of speech, totally destroying the economy, stealing anything he can, and a few other minor issues.

But that's OK, he's fighting American Imperialism, so no big deal.

I cannot currently find the exact posts on this subject, but I do recall that, a few years ago on this forum, when people pointed out the blindigly obvious fact that Chavez just wants to be dictator-for-life and kill or put in jail all his opponents, the useful idiots all claimed that is just "paranoia", it's unfair to the poor, misunderstood Chavez, that they're just saying that because of "Republican propaganda" and its "needs for enemies", that in any case it's all for "his countrymen to decide" if they support him or not (though how one "decides" to not support a dictator-for-life was left unclear), and so on and so forth.

Ah well.

But then again, the useful idiots also love Castro, Che Guevara, and so on -- other murderous dictators (or would-be dictators) whose sole "redeeming" feature -- in the useful idiots' eyes -- is that they hate the USA.

Why should Chavez be any different?

You know, I thought for sure this thread was about the creation of an enemies list, not everything bad Chavez has ever done or been accused of doing.

If in fact the thread topic was something along the lines of "
Chavez Makes List of Oppo Journalists" (just for argument's sake, of course) then jj's comparison makes perfect sense, especially in light of the disclaimer.

Well, someone already acknowledged Nixon's enemies list. What JJ now needs to do is link to Clinton and W's as well as prove that anyone here condones those lists.

Also, putting the list in context of other actions by Chavez does shed a different light on them.

So what exactly do I have to do to get on the list?

I didn't say that they did the SAME thing, but there was certainly a list of unwelcome journalists.

I haven't even remotely suggested Chavez is in the same league.

Really, who said it was "ok" now?

Your extraction of my quote from context is overtly, apparently intentionally dishonest, malicious, and punitive.

Well, you know, since it's the right against everyone, and the only thing that matters is WINNING, well, I'm sure they think it's ok to deliberately insinuate that I said something other than what I said.

Chavez is a creep. I don't think he's capable of rising to the level of a Castro, he thinks rather farther down on the body that most intellects. But he's still a creep and a totalitarian thug.

I wonder, now, nobody's ever decided that a US president has sweeping powers to set aside the constitution at will, have they?

You are again covering for him.

Care to be remotely honest next time?

Notice, folks, how Donal takes quotes, takes them apart, and moves the words around in what is clearly an intentionally dishonest, willful attempt to cause my reputation harm by lying outright about what I actually said and implied.

Telling, isn't it? "Win at all costs", the new right wing mantra. "I want Obama to fail" chants the right, because they care more about winning than either their own welfare or their own country. That's all it's about now, winning at any cost, with any degree of dishonesty or outright cheating.

No, buy you just had to connect Chavez's dictatorial actions to something bad American leaders did, despite any relationship being purely conicidental.

Please show, immediately and with verifiable, testable evidence, evidence that can be tested externally from your intentionally deceptive rearrangement of quotes, where anyone condones these lists.

I require your absolute capitulation in this matter.

Furthermore, when you find the person doing the not-in-evidence condoning, you shall then ask THEM for the evidence for such, and cease your fraudulent demand that I produce evidence for your obviously dishonest claim.

Just typical of the right, now, "win at all costs, even if you ruin yourself in the process", that is.

You first.

I took exactly what you said. No paraphrasing, no taking them out of context. You made a direct comparison to Nixon (which was already acknowledged) and Clinton and W.

By the way, are you going to actually prove Clinton and W actually had such lists?

Telling, isn't it? "Win at all costs", the new right wing mantra. "I want Obama to fail" chants the right, because they care more about winning than either their own welfare or their own country.
Quote me where I've said anything close to that. I've actually stuck up for Obama against some of the seedier attacks. I'm not the one turning this into Dems vs Reps.

That's all it's about now, winning at any cost, with any degree of dishonesty or outright cheating.
For you, it must be. You lie, lie about what you said, then accuse me of lying.

So, you just pulled the lists for W and Clinton out of your nether regions and you just wanted to disrupt the thread. Thats all you had to say.

You know, this trolling you are doing is against the membership agreement.
