"A House ethics panel has convicted Rep. Charlie Rangel (D-N.Y.) on 11 of 13 counts of violating House ethics rules.

Rep. Zoe Lofgren (D-Calif.), the chairwoman of the adjudicatory subcommittee and the full House ethics committee, announced the decision late Tuesday morning following an abbreviated public trial of the 20-term lawmaker and less than a day of closed-door deliberations.
"We have tried to act with fairness, led only by the facts and the law," Lofgren said. "We believe we have accomplished that mission."

The panel will recommend a punishment, then the full ethics panel will have to convene a sanctions hearing to decide whether to agree to the recommended punishment or determine another one. Serious sanctions — including formal reprimand, censure or expulsion — require a vote on the House floor. Expulsion requires a two-thirds vote, while a reprimand, which Rangel refused to agree to in July, or a censure would need just a simple majority."

So, what will he get? Reprimand, censure, or expulsion?

I vote censure.

Any historical precedents?
 
Corruption in government officials is one of the few situations where I approve of the death penalty.
 
He should be expelled, and then face criminal charges for the tax evasion.

The man is guilty, he must pay the piper. As for how, I'm not versed in precedent.

I'd like to see him expelled, but I'll take what I can get. Personally, I almost hope he goes the way of Tom DeLay, who could rot in jail for all I care.

The Obama DOJ didn't prosecute Cunningham. Other people served as President before Jan. 20, 2009, FYI.

Cunningham admitted to bribery. I can see the similarity, although I think Cunningham didn't just skirt the law. He broke new ground, to be sure. I mean, a bribe menu???

That said, if Rangel broke laws, then he needs to pay the price no doubt.

Sorry. I didn't mean to imply the Obama DOJ did that. I guess I need to be very careful with EVERYTHING I post around here. But that does raise a good point. Cunningham was indicted and punished by a Republican controlled DOJ (Bush's). Now wasn't that refreshing compared to what we all expect will happen under a democrat controlled DOJ to a democrat? :D
 
I'm surprised Conservatives haven't called for Rangel to be lynched yet.

But I'm sure its coming. I'll give it 48 hours.
