Cell Phone Towers & Dangers

The only danger cell phone towers pose is that one might collapse and fall on you.

And over in Boston we have the Big Dig, and the tunnel collapse. -- But bad contractors are another story. I can understand the "ugly eye sore" nimby argument, as well -- which is why towers are often concealed in other structures - like church steeples.

Speaking of which, does increasing the number of cell phone towers not only increase coverage but decrease the amount of Watts needed for each tower thus reducing it's individual 'threat' if any.

Yeah, I really don't understand why people have to make crap up in order for them to argue against something. For example, there was an article on the BBC a few days ago about some people wanting to get rid of an antenna (I can't actually remember if it was for phones or TV). The thing is, it was a temporary antenna that had reached the end of its allowed time, and the operator is fighting against the council telling them to get rid of it, but the main argument made by a local resident interviewed was that radio tranistters are dangerous. Why? Is it illegal? Yes. Is it unecessary? Yes. Is it ugly? Yes. Does it spoil the view? Yes. Why feel the need to claim it's eating your babies as well? There are enough perfectly good reasons to get rid of it without needing to lie about it.

Well, I can tell you that lots of folks still think that power lines cause cancer, 'cause they saw something about it on Donahue or some show like that back in '86 or thereabouts.

Great let's revive DC Power over wireless, as proposed by Nikola Tesla. Damn this Westinghouse corporate mogul. :( Wait that's wireless radiation too

:yikes:

Having cell towers installed near your home is a great idea, your cell phone will use less power, so that more time will pass before you need to charge it again, thus saving you money on your electricity bill.

I'd love to have a cell-phone tower near the house. Right now, the nearest tower is in Canada, so if I try calling from home I'm automatically paying international roaming charges. :(

BTW, does this controversy remind anyone but me of all the rumors about people frying themselves by getting to close to microve relays and antennas? I think there's a phony Darwin Award story about it.

I'm pretty sure Dateline did a show about how cell phone radiation causes SARS and mad cow disease or something. Maybe it was 20/20. It also upsets the Earth's natural magnetic field, causing us to need to wear magnets in our shoes.

Let me say this. It's exactly as dangerous as silicone breast implants.
Yeah? :eye-poppi
Couldn't find original story, but enough references in this one!

However, to be serious, a friend of mine is a governor on a couple of school boards in the London area. About once a year, there's talk of putting a mast near one or other of the schools and he has to spend a week dealing with nice middle-class parents who don't want their offspring exposed to nasty radio waves. The fact that they all have mobile phones is, of course, irrelevant. So, he gives them all the relevant information, points out the research etc. And they reply 'oh, you cn prove anything with science" and start drawing up petitions.

What's the old saying? "Against stupidity, the gods themselves contend in vain".

He should just tell the concerned parents that the tower will be shielded with niobium magnets, thereby cancelling out the bad effects and sending out rays of qi energy which will promote healthfulness through the power of fluidic force.

When combating stupidity, another old saying applies: "Fight fire with fire".
