The health care bill--which includes an opt-out public option--will require $849 billion over 10 years in new spending, to be paid for with cuts to Medicare, while reducing the deficit by $127 billion.



In that time it will extend coverage to 31 million Americans--94 percent of citizens will be covered by 2019.



Over the second 10 years, CBO projects even greater cost savings--up to $650 billion, with the caveat that after 10 years, their analyses become highly uncertain.

CBO is non-partisan, isn't it? Any reason to doubt these numbers?
 
no reason to doubt the numbers.

I hope, that the state ability to opt-out of the public option, will satisfy Lieberman enough not to give the Republikkkans a filibuster. maybe a 5 year trigger for HMOs to lower rates should also be added for the public-option, in case Lieberman still says no.

You don't seem to understand the bill. CBO says it will cut the deficit, not cut costs from the total cost of the bill. The reason is it makes cuts to the overages we currently pay to Medicare Advantage providers.

That's money we're already spending that will be reduced. Which is why they (CBO) can state that although the bill costs money, it will save $127 billion more than it will spend.

So this is the bill that is the combination of the other 2 Senate bills (S1679 and S1796).

It's called the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, and has been posted on the web:

I don't think we'll hear from a lot of the opponents of this until they, the radio show hosts, television 'opinion' hosts, and bloggers have a chance to go through the CBO report.

Then they can start moving goalposts and telling us how it really has nothing to do with the costs.

I don't the CBO has become partisan. I think you just have to pay attention to who is making the TV ads that make claims about what the CBO says.

Even on this, if you just see the headlines that say the bill will cost $849 billion (example: Senate leader unveils $849 billion health care bill), you can get a misleading idea of what the CBO's assessment says.
