WTF?!!

Just when I thought the Catholic Church couldn't turn into an even bigger group of asshats, they pull this sort of b.s.

I can only hope this backfires on them like crazy. Nothing like trying to hold the poor and destitute, of which there are far too many these days, hostage in an attempt to force women to adhere to your backwards beliefs on not allowing them to control their own bodies.

I also like the part about how Catholic Charities already receives about $2.9 billion a year from the federal government. And they're more than happy to take all that taxpayer money, just so long as they get to do whatever they want with it, with little to no accountability.

Clearly, Jesus would have taken his fishes and loaves and gone home, too

While waiting for the Amgen Tour of California to come through Palmdale on Friday, a rider on a bike, with a big backpack came up and we started to talk.
Said he was a coast-to-coast rider, went back and forth a lot.
Looked it.
Bike was capable of doing it.
He said he'd stopped at four churches in Palmdale asking for assistance/food, and was turned down at all of them!
There's no Catholic church in Palmdale, but lots of Protestant churches and Hispanic Iglesias..
I liked his story.. he was looking for a sponsor to make it less painful doing his long distance riding. Said something about a contact at Giant Bike who would was looking for photos of the guy.
I took a couple, but the Giant Bike site is so vast and difficult to navigate, I couldn't find his contact... Trevor....???
Anyhoo, I gave him $20.
He'd get more out of it than ST who'd just buy hair glop with it... :)

Not likely. The RCC is going to keep feeding the poor, or at least some of them, in various way through standard means like Works of Mercy. May vary by Diocese, though.

Agreed, I regret that the church may not be able to continue to fund and support many of the organizational efforts they have until now, but I don't expect civil law to modify belief, any more than I expect belief to unduly modify legislated regulation and statute. In some ways, centering Catholic Charities back into the parishes may not be entirely without merit.

I, myself think that it's time to put the catholic church in it's place! They aren't the only game in town. If they can't follow regulations, like everyone else, then take all their funding away! What makes them special? They don't have the following that they used to, and it's because of this kind of crap!

See if they allowed birth control then they wouldn't have to feed all these poor people. It's win-win for them.

They've already done worse. The official position of the RCC is that it is better to have millions of people die of aids than let them use condoms.

The Catholic Church can no longer hold Inquisitions or go on crusades. What's left if
starving the poor isn't an option? Well, I mean other than pedophelia.

Well, I guess when you're no longer allowed to openly burn people at the stake when they have the audacity to disagree with your theology, then threatening to starve the poor when you don't get to have billions of taxpayers dollars (with no strings attached) is the next logical step.

If the RCC keeps this crap up, it will only hasten their decline in the United States.

"Free Inquiry" this month states that "Wal-Mart gives $1.75 billion in food aid charities each year, or 28 times all the money allotted for charity by the United Methodist Church and almost double what the LDS Church has given in the past 25 years."
The LDS contribution is 0.7 percent of its annual income for the period. F.I.

I see a great movie line here: "Well, we'll always have Pedophilia."
