Cat Stevens on Terrorist Watchlist - Plane Diverted

You guys suck!..Isin't there anybody here that thinks his muzak was crap?

Oh! I'm being followed by a moon shadow...Moon shadow, Mooon shadow,
Fukcer should have been assassinated by a music writer from Rolling Stone......eeeesh!

Screw the watchlist; screw 9/11. The USA does a lot of picking and choosing about who gets to enter. Why should a fanatical zealot who advocates violence, due to a writer's words no less, be allowed in?

(For the record, my opinion of his musical drivel pre-dated the Rushdie thing. Sorry Fool. ;) )

Don't let him in if you must. Why divert a whole plane load of people, after a transatlantic flight? A little over the top, by any stretch of the imagination.

Try and imagine it after a rather large amount of very strong weed....You'd be humming it too.;)

I don't see why they couldn't have the agents waiting at the gates of the proper destination, either...

Oh, wait, there probably would have been people expecting him there with cameras and such to witness our taxpayer money at work.

We'd have had some great front-page photos, maybe even video of Cat Stevens being led away by authorities.

From the fwiw dept... He spoke in support of the fatwa calling for Rushdie to be killed.

He actually explained this once on a TV special.

Apparently, once he converted he became, somewhat unwillingly, the media's representative of Islam in Britain. When the Rushdie thing came about, he was swarmed with reporters who were asking him all sorts of questions. When one asked if this was a "legal" ruling, not knowing any better (new convert and all) he said "according to the Quran, the penalty for blasphemy is death." This became his "defense" of the fatwa.

Unwillingly? You mean he was bound and blindfolded and forced to read a statement by terrorists threatening to cut off his head? Please. He was simply a useful idiot.

See, this is why entertainers should keep their stupid mouths shut when they're on camera and asked about things they don't know pig-squat about. At best, they end up looking like idiots.

FWIW, I would happily see Cat Stevens admitted to the U.S. so I could rejoice in the sight of him being gradually impaled on a spit and slow-roasted with Bone-Suckin' Barbecue Sauce. My fury goes back to the early 1970's when Scott and Dick were playing "Teaser and the Firecat" and such 24 x 7 in their dorm room down the hall from me. Some scars never heal.

BTW, y'all know he's rewritten the lyrics to some of his songs, don't you? It's not "Morning Has Broken" any more; it's "Khomeini Has Spoken"...

Oh, baby baby it's a watch list.

Lol. Cat Stevens always makes me think of Harold and Maude. His music's not much to my taste, but it fit in with that movie well.

I really can't wait for this wierd-ass dream to be over...Schwarzenegger is the governor of California, Cat Stevens is on a terror watchlist, 1/2 the nation is still willing to vote for Bush, all while I'm standing in front of my entire high school class naked.

Shouldn't have eaten that Indian food right before bed.

It gets worse for you man....
it's well over half!

moon shadow...MOON SHADOW!

Dead.

I like some of his old hits. They're catch. I read once that he didn't write the music to "Morning Has Broken" though and that it was a very old church hymn or something. And of course "Another Saturday Night" was a cover.

Someone said he was a Muslim when he was still named Cat Stevens. I don't know how long it was after he became a Muslim that he changed his name but for much of the time he was Cat Stevens he was a non-Muslim. And he was into all kinds of wacky things. One of his albums had a numerology theme. He was the stereotypical artist-type trying all kinds of different things and Islam turned out to be the thing he permanently latched onto. I don't think he stayed in the conventional music biz for too long after converting to Islam.

Hippie or terrorist? How about skeptic. One of Cat Steven's more obscure songs is a skeptic anthem about a dying man wondering about what happens after death. This was (oddly) very comforting to me when I was dealing with the isolation of being an atheist in a religious society. My favorite lines in red
-----Sitting-----
Oh I'm on my way, I know I am,
Somewhere not so far from here
All I know is all I feel right now,
I feel the power growing in my hair.

Sitting on my own not by myself,
Everybody's here with me
I don't need to touch your face to know,
And I don't need to use my eyes to see.

I keep on wondering if I sleep too long,
Will I always wake up the same (or so)?
And keep on wondering if I sleep too long,
Will I even wake up again or something.

Oh I'm on my way I know I am,
But times there were when I thought not.
Bleeding half my soul in bad company,
I thank the moon I had the strength to stop.

I'm not making love to anyone's wishes,
Only for that light I see
'Cause when I'm dead and lowered low in my grave,
That's gonna be the only thing that's left of me

And if I make it to the waterside,
Will I even find me a boat (or so)?
And if I make it to the waterside,
I'll be sure to write you note or something.

Oh I'm on my way, I know I am,
Somewhere not so far from here.
All I know is all I feel right now,
I feel the power growing in my hair.

Oh life is like a maze of doors and they all
Open from the side you're on.

Just keep on pushing hard boy, try as you may
You're going to wind up where you started from
You're going to wind up where you started from

I bet he'd renounce those lyrics now. Now he _knows_ what happens after death. Like many people he couldn't stand not knowing and preferred picking a belief system that says it has the true answers.

Hard to say. I would not presume to know exactly what he now believes. I know many people who belong to a religion, yet don't believe all the mythology of that religion. Some of them are down right open-minded. Some of them post here.

They're not all like 1inChrist.

Damn you for beating me to this, AUP.

However, Cat Stevens/Yusuf Islam is/was a PEACE ACTIVIST! "Peace Train" ring a bell? He's also a BRITISH citizen!

Some of you bastards like Rikzilla would have put this man squarely in the "hippy-dippy" category in about 2 seconds if he had kept his stage name of Cat Stevens. You'd have been spewing the litany of the anti-left. It's only because of his name change that you'd even lift an eyebrow.

Guess what? Cat Stevens was Muslim when he was Cat Stevens, too. Ride on the Peace Train, bitch. I'm being followed by a FBI shadow - FBI shadow FBI shadow.

Ohh...such venom! :p

So, he went from "hippy-dippy" musician to Gulf War I "human shield",...to "Muslim Peace Activist who BTW supports Hamas and Saddam".... I'd call that a fairly natural progression. He's like, the king of the useful idiots, isn't he? Beats "top-40 has been" I guess.

Next time Cat,...stay off the peace plane.

He's a devout Muslim and I think most devout Muslims think they know (roughly speaking at least) what happens after death. And in fact, one of the posts above has a link to an article by him talking about the next life, etc, so it seems he's gotten over his "I don't know" phase, although from the sounds of that article that period when he was searching (and ended up choosing Islam) was when he wrote that song.

I suspect that is true. But I also doubt that he has forgotten that time when he was searching, and now scorns people who still wonder about those questions. Perhaps he's one of those "It works for me" kinds of Muslims.

Well, all I can say is that I feel much safer now. We can't nail Osama, but we can keep Cat Stevens out! Clearly, Bush must be re-elected or dangerous people like this will find their way into American to do their evil bidding and undermine our will with their lame politics and old-pop songs.

The only question I have is how can we rest knowing that Kenny G. is out there poised on the verge of commiting another album.

Someone call Dick Cheeny and stop KennyG before he records again!
