Castro was democratically elected ruler of Cuba?

so under this "requirements", how many elections must pass before a system gains approval as "democratic"?

funny... i thought democracy was any type of ruling by the people.

i don't have a particular interest in discussing cuban democracy or the lack there of, but i will comment on some historic data (beyond wikipedia).

the reasons for jose miro cardona's resignation are unclear, but his mutual attacks between him and fidel castro didn't start until he was cuban ambassador in spain. later on while in the united states jose miro was recognized as "president of cuba" by the kennedy administration. (is that democracy?)

cuban people were so blinded by the triumph fidel led them to, they would have done anything for him, any public figure that badmouthed fidel was immediately disliked by the cubans, so when castro resigned as prime minister due to differences with manuel urrutia, the people turned against urrutia and didn't leave him alone until he abdicated as president (think mubarak). during his last days as president he repeatedly said there were no differences between him and castro. (a desperate attempt to gain public sympathy? who knows).

now...the cuban constitution of 1976 created the national assembly of the people's power (asamblea nacional del poder popular) as the only organism with legislative power in cuba. the assembly members are elected from the general population every 5 years, they don't campaign or stuff like that, they can only be chosen and replaced by their neighbors. that assembly voted and made the decision to name castro president to be removed when they felt necessary. i don’t know if the issue of replacing castro ever came up, but had it come up, they would have been the ones voting on it.
