Candidates will speak again at same Oct. 20th dinner...

Yikes, Trump's presentation was ugly and awkward, reeking of Bannon. Self-deprecation is part of the gig, and his most self-deprecating joke actually deprecated Melania. What a creep.

Trump simply doesn't understand the concept of self-deprecation. No one is allowed to make fun of or insult him, not even the Donald himself.

If he had zinged himself, he'd have to go home and tweet "Vicious attack by Donald Trump tonight. Sad. Sad."

I'm looking back at this and think Ed Rollins is correct. It wasn't that he didn't "connect" with the audience; he didn't understand them.

Donnie's still new money/nouveau riche. He's like a less-wealthy Charles Foster Kane, trying to fit in with the older money and bigger money. I have to say, Kane had better taste. His mansion was actually gorgeous and the stuff he bought was outlandish but not garish/kitsch. But when you look at Trump's flagship residence, it's all kitsch... It makes Ben Carson's place seem understated and humble.

I came across this in my regular sojourns through right-wing sites. They're obviously in awe of the place. I see a high class Hong Kong bordello.

No wonder the old guard in Palm Springs don't want him near them. He's a poseur. And he cowers from the real billionaires but attacks people less able to defend themselves because he still feels inadequate. He's seventy and is never getting his daughters invited to the spring cotillion and he'll go upstairs and pass away on his gold toilet uttering "Sniffbud".

Yeah. I watched the early seasons of The Apprentice, where his Manhattan apartment featured frequently. I thought it was a prime example of what happens when you combine billions of dollars in money with $.10 worth of good taste.

I followed a 30-slide ClickBait about his "mansion" apartment full of tacky **** in a high rise.

That's some ugly habitation.

I saw it was a 30-slide clickbait site... and I closed the window.

I'll have to live without seeing the full ostentatiousness, though the teaser pic puts Versailles to shame... and I blame FMW for that. :(

:p

I'm having to switch channels a lot, or suffer through gag inducing repetitions of snippets of Donald's performance... and there's no end in sight.

I can't believe how bad his performance is. I just can't.

He's had decades of speaking to full ballrooms of wealthy people. How can he misjudge his audience this time so badly?

WTF is wrong with that man?

I couldn't public speak my way out of a paper bag, and at the risk of seeming less humble than Donald... I could have not only given a better speech, I could have written a better speech.

At every turn, every turn, he chose poorly.

I meant to put in a warning about it being one of those horrible multiple click sites, but forgot.

Sorry 'bout that. To anyone else wanting to see the garishness.... yeah, 30 clicks so you see different ads thirty times. Annoying as hell, but the kitsch was worth it.

I think that site design trick is the worst thing I've seen on the Net in recent times... and I did DTP in the early '90s (and suffered through a friend's attachment to AngelFire).

It's a different setting altogether now that he isn't the eccentric (supposedly) billionaire celebrity buffoon, but a presidential candidate. They won't go "Oh, but that's just Donald being Donald" this time.

Of course, to the degree that he has values, they seem to have changed quite a bit in 10 - 15 years or so.

But it was everything.

His material was ill-advised. Not just "Donald being Donald" bad, but incredible tone-deaf for the room.

Beyond that, most incredibly, his delivery was horrendous.
I can't describe how cringe inducing his delivery was... I've rarely if ever seen something so bad. I've nothing comparable to relate it to.

How is that possible? He's incredibly far from a neophyte at public speaking.
I'm not even sure you could explain the concept of "stage fright" to him.

So WTF is wrong with that man?

Didn't the "Alternative Media" a while ago push the idea that Hillary has dementia?

Dementia does change personality. Having seen the disease eat away my grandma, I don't wish it on anyone, but if it turns out that Trump has it, there's no limit to my schadenfreude towards the people who were actually willing to vote and endorse a candidate in the early stages of dementia.
