Can you prove it?

Surprise gift to anyone contributing something positive

Can you prove that you believe? Not what you believe or why, but that you actually believe. Is there proof of belief or is everyone's belief taken only on their say-so? Just wondering.

I will gift anyone here with a most profitable reward if he can say something positive to my query as follows:

Only two persons survive, a man and a woman, in the hypothetical end of mankind; they are both healthy and compatibly reproductive; they both believe that they are sincere in wanting to help the other stay alive and repropagate mankind.

How does each one prove to himself and to the other that he is sincere in his belief, that he wants to help the other stay alive and repropagate mankind?

Please, only positive contributions, no smart reply which profiteth none, except to make oneself appear smart.

No

Actions can be faked.

Though in Jesus' case, its pretty hard to believe he was faking his faith in the whole divine/human connection. Those nails... Pretty hard to fake your way through that stuff.

What I am getting at, is that sometimes theists question my assertions, claiming that I am not really an atheist but deep down inside,I know that god exists. Is there a way to prove my own beliefs or to demand proof of their beliefs?

Since denying the existence of god condemns your soul to hell forever, then doing so would mean that either you truly believe what you say, or that you do in fact wish to fry in hell for all eternity and are therefore certifiably insane. You could go to a shrink and get a certificate of competency, and a rubber stamp on the back of your hand saying "Not insane", and show these things the next time you are challenged by a theist. It might not convince them, but I bet they would back away slowly and never bother you again. :D

It matters naught. Two individuals cannot produce a large, healthy population. In this case, humankind is doomed.

Unless he actually believed he was the messiah and would ACTUALLY be the second coming of David's kingdom and would never have been killed before seeing peace come to Israel in his lifetime.

Why has thou forsaken Jesus indeed.

Try not to quote Paul in your rebuttal.

So far nothing positive...

Remember, just because you can write and post here does not mean that you cannot think positively -- but must always think negatively?

No. The only way of proving to them that you believe something would be figuring out a way to directly link them to your thoughts. If you could somehow splice their brain to yours it may work. Or do a Vulcan mind meld.

In the real world, I guess the most incisive way of showing that you believe something would be to die for said belief - self immolation makes quite an impression I'm told. That's still short of proof though!

Wouldn't work. They're already convinced they know what God thinks; the rest of us should be pretty easy to figure out, regardless of the evidence.

People like that, you're going to lose the argument, period, so put your ego back into your sock and just walk away.

Belief is a dangerous thing, take a suicide bomber for instance, the only proof people with like minded beliefs need is to see someone who is so convinced of an afterlife that he or she is willing to blow themselves up, how much more proof would the followers of that belief need to convince them of its validity.

What if, what you believe has real meaning in the great scheme of things, why do people have so many different forms of belief? Wouldn’t it be easier just to wake up every day and just marvel at the fact that you exist at all? On a personal level, you could say that believing in something that can’t be proven costs you nothing, so if there is something to having a belief, all your doing is giving yourself a little back up plan, just in case there is something else after we die.

This leads me to my last comment:

Everyone has a belief system; no one can truly say that they don’t believe in anything. Any belief is born of not understanding things, on the other hand we can’t say that we understand everything so where there are gaps in understanding, all there is left is interpretation and that’s where beliefs get their foot through the door.
