My opinion is that the entire world order has been broken and can't be repaired. That's why the title is written as it is - I like Betteridge's Law.

The problem, of course, boils down to the orange thing in the White House. I realise his days are numbered, but MAGA will continue his legacy and I don't believe his actions can be fully negated.

Nobody is going to trust a Democrat president, because they will lose again at some point and it's back on the gravy train for the MAGA boys and girls.

The rise of the right appears unstoppable, although we should stop calling it right/left, but rich/poor. There is now so much money concentrated in the hands of the few that it will never be distributed and the vast majority of the population is reduced to wage slavery - the Proles in all but name.

Armed resistance isn't an option, because the money controls all the guns. The cyber war has been won by the Rogans Taits and Musks - and if you don't think that's true, why is BlueSky nothing but a shadow of Xitter? I see no options, because the proles will not rise up, and to hope they will is to be Winston Smith and think the uprising has begun, when it turns out to be cheap frying pans. We are all in Room 101.

If you think you can see an exit point for the trajectory we're on, please state it.

Much like the aftermath of covid as a pandemic, the world will continue and can improve.
But it will never be as it was.

All icons eventually collapse as powers. Nobody has united the world in undoing a leader as trump has. Everyone related to him will fall also.

Losing faith is the first step to losing all. I have faith in humanity to undo Maga, trump and putin.
Sanity will prevail one day ahead.

One major problem is that anyone with brains does not want to be President of the USA. So you get power mad stupid idiots running. Long time since their was a President who had a successful career getting people to do what they want to do. Acting does not count. Nor do politicians. Someone like a manager, lawyer, an officer in the DEFENCE FORCE would count.

“All of this has happened before, and it will all happen again.”
- J.M. Barrie: Peter Pan

"And it will be at least as awful this time around, if we're lucky."
- not J.M. Barrie: Peter Pan

Yeah, Socrates pre-dates Barrie by a year of two, but I don't think we've ever been here before.

Certainly the Achilles's heel of the internet. Despite all its great advantages, some people view the internet as reality. But it's not. Take some time off the web, get outside, take a walk. You'll realize this is all in your head.

Oh, no. I don't think you're pretending. Not at all. I think some folks on this forum sincerely believe the world is out to get them.
Is it paranoia if they really are out to get you?

Also, what about all of this (gestures vaguely) strikes you as not real? The internet and social media are very real parts of modern society.

But they often don't reflect reality. You're surely aware of the idea of an echo chamber. And you're surely aware that people seek out offense - call it clickbait, whatever. But when you happen upon people not in your echo chamber, they don't have your paranoia. On the internet, and forums like this, an event that happened thousands of miles away is treated as if it happened down the street. Everything gets distorted.

And exactly what part of all of this is not real?

we don't need a fix - we need a process that leads to incremental improvements for more than just billionaires.

pretty much everywhere it is very obvious what could be done, right now, that would make things so much better. We need to name&shame the people who, for personal benefit, stand in the way until they become so toxic that no one is willing to stay bribed by them.

Small change that cannot be undone with an Executive Order is what we need, not a big step forward that will be hamstrung and reversed at the first opportunity by the regressives.

Not only can it not be fixed it will get increasingly worse as climate change increases the number of refugees, and countries less impacted by it batten down the hatches to try to keep something approaching the standard of living their grandparents had.

Something better may eventually emerge from the mess, but I'm not optimistic. Either way the next century or so is going to be grim for everybody except the megarich.
