Can Palin run without engaging the media?

So Palin wants to run for President. But she says she will only do interviews with Fox News and right wing radio.

Do you think she can actually be successful with this strategy? Is it possible to have a campaign that actually goes anywhere while not going on any of the mainstream news outlets?

My own opinion is that this tactic will work to fire up the diehard right wing base but she'll be in trouble when she wants to expand support beyond them.

Probably not. She's welcome to try, but I won't be holding my breath.

The situation: For the last few days, Palin has been running around one corner of the country on a highly advertised bus tour, which is entirely fake as a presidential campaign, but is intended to fuel speculation of same. She is playing keep-away with the press, intentionally withholding scheduling information, and making them track her down in real time.

Here's the test: Will the media continue to trail Palin around, treating her like a presidential candidate, even as it becomes more obvious by the day that she is faking them out -- using them as props in her political theater?

If so, then perhaps she can run for president on those terms. After all, it was unthinkable 4 years ago that someone could run for VP on those terms, and yet she did. I predict she'll keep the clown show running until July 4th weekend, when she'll pull off a flag-draped withdrawal.

I would suspect some Republican party backers are paying her to do this to rile up support for her from the far right wing so that when the Republican nominee is determined (which will probably be somebody much more moderate than the far right wants) she will endorse the nominee to solidify the Republican vote and prevent splinter votes for a fringe Tea Party or Libertarian candidate.

She's not running. This is just a pr stunt. And so far it's working pretty well. This will keep her in the headlines even though the press will soon be focused pretty heavily on the real candidates.

Policenaut is correct. Palin is just making money for her own personal gain. She's a selfish....

i heard she is fit for office now, she doubled her experiance in international politics, she went over to the other border of Alaska and guess what, she was able to see Canada from there.

Well, she just bought a house in Arizona. I guess she can keep an eye on Mexico as well.

And will she continue that if she is elected president?

This.

It doesn't really matter if she sucks up all the attention for now though. Primaries are still more than half a year away. She can help fill the gap between the Trump fake candidacy and the actual campaign season, which starts around Labor Day.

I think we'll see Palin in the Republican primaries. I'm sure she has no chance to win the nomination, but I expect she has other motives anyway. Maybe a cabinet position; maybe an endorsement; maybe an audience for a future tv show, etc. She doesn't really need to engage the media directly for any of that: in fact, a direct engagement could even be a liability.

Aaaaaand welcome to the all new PALIN' YOUR LEG! That's right, it's the show where we prank people on a global scale!

I mean, really elaborate, like we find out she's actually an android, or maybe it was a brain transplant between a grown woman and a six-year-old. Some mad scientist will come forward and admit all. "Yes, I did it, I wanted to prove that three hamsters working in concert to move tiny gears could operate this nearly-realistic woman-shaped vehicle and fool much of the population!"
